Strikers 1999 chips u33 and u34

U33 and u34 seemed to be resoldered/ changed to the ones on the board now. The only clear picture online I can find shows the chips both being 67mhz while the ones on my board are 66mhz and 83mhz. The Board does nothing on start up. Any one have his game and can confirm the chips here? Thanks

Whoever soldered u34 on bent all the pins under the chip :wtf:

The chip probably came like that. It's a regular form factor for some chip types, the legs are bent under the chip in a J-shape. They're not very fun to solder.

Seriously ? The top chip looks like it’s tilted to one side like someone changed it; it’s not level with the pcb

Oh, it's obviously been changed. There's flux residue everywhere and the cap next to it has minor heat damage from the hot air. Just saying that nobody bent the chip legs.

Those are SDRAMs if you're wondering about them. It might be possible to source similar chips from old AGP VGA cards.

Yeah i was wondering where I could find replacements. I just want to confirm with someone if they both have to be 66mkz like what I saw online

It's just max speed, it doesn't matter if the other one is higher specced. Check continuity on all legs and look elsewhere for your issue.

Crap I thought forsure it had something to do with speed :( the rest of the board is mint , and untouched.

I checked continuity and everything was good on those chips.

What’s the cpu on this thing? I’ll check the crystal too

The SH2 (U35) chip.

Super Hitachi series are not normal CPUs, they're more like SoCs (system on a chip) or MCUs (Micro controllers) so they have lots of stuff inside them besides the CPU core. In the SH2 case it has two serial ports, timer, interrupt controller, MMU and SDRAM controller built in. So the SDRAMs traces should go straight to the SH2 chip.

Previously I said it was SDRAM but it might be high speed EDO-RAM instead. The kind you will see on Monster 3D videocards.

Anyone have this game so they can confirm those two chips ?

Pictures of my PCB are here. U33 & U34 are clear in the last pic.

I saw that one on your website :). Ok I’m convinced they both have to be 66

I actually have 4 NOS SM81C256K16CJ-25 drams, they are 100mhz rated but it should not matter since what you need is the slower 66mhz ones, they look like this: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File ... 6CJ-25.png

If you want them drop me a pm I'll send them at cost - 3$/each + shipping 8-)

It came with 66Mhz rams from the factory, but you can replace them with faster ones. It won't make a lick of difference. Unless you have some proof that the top one isn't working right (do you have a scope?), the fault is somewhere else.

Don't replace it just on a hunch. Those rams are a PITA to solder, you can easily create problems where there was none.

You could ask someone like Leon Kiriluk to take a look at the board. I don't know if he services arcade boards, but you can always ask. He's in Toronto, maybe you are too.

Yeah I was goignon a hunch, I’ll take a higher res pic of the said chip so you can understand why lol it looks butchered! Something for sure hit the original chip and messed it up enough to be replaced. And yeah I know him,we’re In the same arcade fb group haha in Ontario, Canada. Is he On this forum??

Of course it looks butchered, because it's been hand soldered in place. It's very hard to align it 100% straight and you have to use a lot of flux. Using flux makes the area look "oily".

I don't think he's on here, but he's on the Shmups forum. Anyway, you should get in touch with him.
