Fully decrypted Super Pang program roms , are they available?

Post by keropi »

Hiya!
I recently got a suicided Pang board and I was able to do a really clean restoration using Arcade Hackers fully decrypted program roms available here: http://arcadehacker.blogspot.com/2014/1 ... art-3.html
I also used the original 27C301 eeprom so appart from a resistor I removed and the dead battery nothing else is changed.
Been wondering if someone has produced the same kind of fully decrypted program roms for Super Pang as well - I also got a suicided Super Pang board :awe: and it would be a shame to start messing with wires...

Any tips/help will be greatly appreciated, thanks! :D

I think you are missunderstanding restoring methods of pre-cps hardware. Method published by ArcadeHacker is related to restore the pcb to a fully working state without modifying any part of the pcb and without replacing any roms. He developed an Arduino program to reprogram the decryption keys inside Kabuki cpu, so it can decrypt all original encrypted program roms, and you don't need to replace then and modify the pcb.

There is another (old) method to put back to life this kind of hardware, but this is one published in Dead Battery Society website, specially for Pre-CPS games:
http://www.arcadecollecting.com/dead/pre-cps.html

If you visit this website, you can read how to restore pcb by removing battery and modifying hardware to allow Kabuki cpu read decrypted roms provided in that website. Obviously you also need to burn those decrypted roms into eproms and replace original ones, but keep in mind that region of the game is important, so Buster Bros (Pang US region) has not the same decrypted roms than Pang (World region)

Hope it helps! :)

Yes I know all about the awesome key-writer and the old way already but before that arcadehacker posted fully decrypted Pang program roms that require no kabuki key to work or other wire trickery or double-sized roms, read here: http://arcadehacker.blogspot.com/2014/1 ... art-3.html , scroll down to the "Pang - The Unencrypted set" section.
I am merely asking if the same program roms are available for Super Pang. For me it's a better solution since you get rid of the battery forever and you don't alter the board with wires, removing a resistor is nothing serious.
Thanks for the input anyways, appreciate it! :awe:
