SSV 3.6v nicd questions

I found a 3.6v nicad rechargeable battery on my sammy pachinko reaction pcb. Says april 1998 stamped on it. It looks a little bit like the leaky kind to me. Should i replace this? Is this for powering sram like on the neogeo? This isn't a suicide battery right? There isn't much info out there about the SSV design.

What does the positive battery terminal power if you trace the power line? That chip below the Battery the Sharp chip looks like an SRAM or some kind of ram. I cant verify it because im having issues finding a datasheet but the -10L is likely the speed rating on it. Judging by that you could assume it battery backs up some kind of ram for saving settings or scores. But i cant be positive. It could also be a suicide battery shrug lol 8-)

Are there no service manuals on this board you found?

I don't think any sane manufacturer would make a suicide battery circuit out of a rechargeable battery. :awe:

LOL your probably right

Ok lol then in that case its safe to assume you could replace the battery with a battery holder and rechargable coin cell.
Unless you disable the charge circuit.

Yes I think that's the reasonable way of dealing with that problem. I Suggest you fit some long wires and use the exact same kind of battery, but have it contained in a box away from the board.

Will trace the line once i get home, and let you guys know!

Finally got home. The plus line from the nicad, and if i am not mistaken, goes to R3>D3>D2>D1 and from there it goes straight into leg1 of the sharp LH5168D. Charging circuit into buffer ram? I am not good with these things.

It's likely this:

D1 connects the + side of the Battery to the SRAM. D2 connect the +5V from main supply to SRAM (makes the SRAM receive 5V during power on times) D3 is in series with the R3 (1K7R) to recharge the battery. Not horribly complicated, you see.

What, like Capcom did with the Kabuki? :awe:

CPS 1.5 had the same kind of primary battery CPS2 had... (3.6v not rechargeable)

Pang and others are pre-CPS though, also using the Kabuki.

It had a Varta 3/V60R or 3/V80H rechargeable.

Wow, now, that's a bit sloppy, yeah. So, pre-CPS... I see.

Isn't DDP DOJ BL like that as well? Suicide battery circuit with a rechargeable battery I mean?

So what does the sharp chip need power for? The game doesn't have any highscore lists. There isn't a service menu either.
