Strikers 1945 2 buzzing sound

Post by Hrvat9 »

Any anyone tell me what cap is missing here?(bottom left, its C13) It's hard to tell from internet pics so if someone could look at their board and let me know that would be awesome :) I have all sound effects but music is just buzzing, definitely related to my missing cap in the sound area

I got a Strikers 1945 III, essentially the same, and it has a cap with specs:
2200uF 25V , 85 degrees C, diameter is about 16.5mm and height 25mm. For posterity, the manufacturer is TOSHIN KOGYO (TK).

You can replace it with a part that has higher temperature and voltage rating.

Sorry for the necrobump but I'm posting more for future searchers ;)

That is in fact the correct cap but it doesn't really do a great deal. I have never seen on actually fully connected/soldered into position on any of my Psikyo pcbs.

HTH

Cheers,

Ralph.

Really? My game would just hum and buzz before I put that cap in. The sound is super low now, still hums and the amp gets really hot but I at least hear the game play music and sound effects so hopefully a recap in the sound section will fix it. Or is something else making the amp heat up like that ?

the amp gets hot when there is oscillation. this is often due to bad caps or bad solders

I don't have a solution, but this might be of interest: I had the same issue with a Strikers 1945 II board - buzzing, distorted sound - and VectorGlow replaced all the electrolytic caps and the sound amp, and it STILL didn't fix the problem!

The only other possibilities were replacing the op amp or the Yamaha sound chip, but the only place known to source them would be from another Strikers board! So we gave up at that point.

I hope you find the answer! Please tell me if you do ;)

Yeah, let me know. I seriously would like to help here, sounds actually like some simple termination or short issues. Op amp going hot is a big indicator. Even if the Op amp needs replacing you can usually just bypass that and find another solution for that.

Don't these Psikyo boards almost always have a little buzz?

Yeah they do, but he mentioned it being buzzy music.
Hrvat9, I can't tell much with those close up pictures, would probably need a high res of the whole board.

Got this sucker back out of storage and time to tackle this sound issue!
Game still runs mint , buzzing still going on. Amp is stinking hot. I touched other chips to see if anything else is hot and we got 3 more; psikyo big chip , the square chip at the bottom left and the clock signal chip is somewhat hot too. Circled them. Any clues ? Also recapped the sound area way back when
