system11 wrote:SG2E is the clue there. E in Capcom labelling often denotes EU/World versions. It's not in MAME yet, you should get that ROM dumped. ROM 04 is the one which changes between US and Asia sets, so finding SG2E 04 and a Euro title screen is pretty much what you'd expect.
I see, thank you very much for the help! So concluding that the big sticker also says "Plasma Sword" rather than "Star Gladiator 2", this is a legit romboard? Cool! However, this makes me wonder regarding Tech Romancer as Rom 04 has a "J" as in "Japanese", yet it's Asia? Hmmm...

Anyway, I don't really have the time to bother with dumping, but I will sell them both together with a ZN-2 mainboard (as I need to raise some funds soon). Just need to figure out whether I am allowed to sell them on here or if I got to put them on Ebay

Star Gladiator 2 is such an awesome game. Should not be hard to get it sold quickly.

If only Capcom was still making high quality stuff like that. :(
Emulation's nice when done well

Your Tech Romancer is a Japanese board that has had its ROM 04 label peeled and it has been reprogrammed with the Asian ROM image.

Dammit! I should have re-checked this topic sooner (i.e. before I put them on sale here) :palm:

Damn, that sucks. I tend to avoid that guy's auctions (for one reason that I won't say since I am not entirely certain it was the same seller... but I am pretty sure) since he has a number of boards with that ugly Korean sticker thing plastered on it. Maybe I'm crazy, and I have nothing against Koreans, but I simply don't trust Korean PCBs after having heard of the censorship of Korean MVS carts.

And, well, based on what you have confirmed, an issue with selling improperly marked conversions.

Depends on what you view as a "conversion". It's not like it's been converted from another, less valuable game. It's just had the region changed. Personally, I wouldn't be too fussed about it, I'd just reprogram ROM 04 back to Japanese.

No huge foul there, it's still got the JP label too so it was an original Japanese one and can be put back to standard with correct labels. A lot of region swapping went on with operators and distributors back in the day because they'd buy in boards and swap the region to whatever they were legally operating in. This is why you see (primarily US operated) PCBs with the serial numbers removed or scratched out.

You can sell it here Akuma. Just describe it as region modded.
PCBs with replaced socketed ROMs to allow language or minor revision changes or to resurrect a game are allowed but must be clearly described and otherwise original.

Yay!

So why no dip switches? And no way to change settings (that I can tell)? Man this game is unforgiving... heh.

I have what I think is a full MVS Rage of the Dragons kit.
I have bought some lemons in the past and was just wondering if the black cart and the labels look legit?
On the cardboard box, there does seem to be another label below the English RotD one, and as far as I can tell, it's a Japanese RotD.

Image

Legit or a bag of ****?
I don't really want to open the cart up particularly either.

Edit:
This is apparently the overseas version.
