Naomi CF with normal non-net-DIMM

Saw a couple of bragging videos about this, and a guy offering a 25$ service to make it happen. Does anyone know what's involved technically?

From what I have read on Gamoover (where it all started) a guy made a hacked firmware for non net dimms and flashed it manually (unsoldering the eeprom and flashing it).

From there, talks about making an unofficial update gd rom to allow easier updates of the dimms, but haven't seen anything in the wild. I assume that if mitsurugiw can offer the service for $25 he does not desolder/flash/resolder the eeprom.

Sauce on Gamoover

Voilà :D

Well id expect now that the bios is hackable then i would i would inject the firmware in the bios and activate it when you go in rom test or similar.

But that's me.. **** messing with tsops!

Ok, in other words there is a special 4.0x firmware for non-net-dimms floating around somewhere?

I will mess with TSOP's over large DIP's on 4+ layer PCB's any day of the week :)

Just got confirmation that you still need to desolder the tsop for the update (again on gamoover's topic). with the recent hacks to the bios we are just seeing the beggining of a lot of new stuff on naomi soon!

Exhibit A:

Lol

This is d knutes work (he did this like 3 years ago), amazing how i emailed it to a guy and now its everywhere.

There is serious graphical issues and hence why it was never released, works fine on emulators.

Hi

It's me who has done the dimmboard nonnet hack
I've done thé hotd2 netboot file too, and it's isn't ripped from deunan.
I planned to do it in January. Il talked about this to darksoft.
Hé made his own version and I've done mine (on video)
It has graphical glitch due to thé fact that it doesn't run on a revA naomi(which Will be corrected)
I havent used prototype hotd2 too

What's the reason CF stuff doesn't work on the normal dimm, as the 'essential' hardware seems to be the same? SEGA developing it on the net-dimm only and being too lazy to check it on a normal one?

Dont know thé reason why but upgrading net firmware to nonnet brick it(causing exceptions)

It work like à charm now, i found something New too, it Will my Christmas gift to thé communauty :D
I worked on an 4.03 firmware too, but no time to finish it. Yet.

Yeah, I did some tests when I got the 4.01/4.02 - having a DIMM where the FW chip is socketed makes it a little easier :) Got this setup when I was playing around with CD-R booting on naomi:

Anyho - great work making the fw work on non-net dimms!

Working HOTD2 netboot? Waaaaow! :awe:

Great work TylerDurden67, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what you're coming up with. :)

Thanks for posting that video too zim, I enjoyed watching that :thumbupright:

Well darksoft hotd2 net boot came from me, and if your hotd2 does work via net boot and cf then i am impressed as its does not matter if you use an original naomi or later ones.

Fyi hotd2 cart works on all naomi cpu boards except crx versions.

Cdr booting has existed since 2006, problem is it only lasts a few hours then bombs out.. This was originally done by the legendary Elsemi.

Excuse my ignorance, but why isn't it possible to netboot HOTD2 under "normal" circumstances?

Thanks!

Because it needs a custom BIOS that is very old and thus does not support dimm boards (net or not)

Because hotd2 got its own bios which dont own netboot / gdrom feature
