Esp Ra.De. - How to play after the Imput Menu
Hello Arcade Otaku,
Noob question. I just got an ESP Ra.De. board and when I connect it to my supergun it seems to boot up fine into a screen calibration screen with 3 menu selections. If you go into "Input Check" you get this screen.
All the buttons work when I push the appropriate one, but for the life of me I can't exit from this menu to actually play the game.
I've tried the test buttons on the supergun and they don't do anything (I've pressed them and held them for various durations of time). I've seen there is a small button on the board as well which I've pressed and held for a few seconds to no avail.
Anyone know what I'm not doing to get past this screen and play the game? I'm sure it's something obvious.
Thanks for any help or information,
West

It sounds like it's acting as if the test switch is stuck / held down. It shouldn't boot to that menu by default.
This could be the switch on the board or the one on the supergun. Do you have any other pcb to test on the supergun?

Hmm, I figured it was something like that. I have a few cps2 boards and those all boot up fine. Just this Esp Rade board is giving me trouble. If I disconnected the test wire on the jamma harness would that tell me if it's a problem with the gun or the board?MrHalibut wrote:It sounds like it's acting as if the test switch is stuck / held down. I pressed the test button on the board a few times and also tried holding it down for various lengths of time. and it didn't get me out of that screen.
How would I go about checking the test button?
Thank you for your help.

Do you have a multimeter?

If your CPS2 games don't boot to a test menu then it looks like the problem is the switch on the esprade board, and not the test switch on the supergun.West wrote:Hmm, I figured it was something like that. As for how to un-stick it, hopefully someone else can help with that

Re: Esp Ra.De. - How to play after the Imput Menu
You can move the menus...?, i refer...you can change the difficulty settings etc?,
if you can...,
the problem is on the Button,
but if you cant...,is possible the PCB have some kind of problem,
i say that, for some experiences with other PCB,s,
not ESP-RA.DA,
i dont want afraid you...

... or get someone to help you.
It looks like the circuit is closed all the time.
You will have to find out why.
You got lucky since it is the service-key, which it is very near to the jamma edge and should be quite easy to trace to the edge and probe.
Get a friend, probe it, find out why it is activated all the time. Maybe a broken trace, a resistor, or a dead switch.

In case you don't have a friend with a multimeter, I am sure a member of a hackspace in your neighborhood will be able to help you:

Anyways, having this as a hobby - owning a multimeter isn't a bad thing - it's actually required I might say.
Buying one won't set you back much compared to the mentioned PCB

get one with automatic ranges. nothing more confusing to guess the range too.
