I just got a Namco System 246 which apparently is dead. I pluged it and all I get is a black screen nothing else.
Game is gundam z dx game. Drive is an LG GDR-8164B with ROM VER. 0L06
The green WARNING led lights all the time (not blinking).
I'm powering it with a 350W PC PSU (Max. 10A on 5V and 9A on 12V)+ MAK/Supergun, but in my normal cabinet does the same.
I noticed that the DVD Drive won't do anything (Even opening the tray or turn on the green LED) if the Data cable is plugged. If I unplug the cable then the drive's led will light and I can eject the disc. Ventilator on the side of the board is working and power seems to be OK.
In order to discard the LG drive as the source of problem, can someone tell me what happens when you turn it on with the DVD ribbon cable unplugged? Does it show something on the screen or just black?
Any ideas, where to start from?
Cheers.

Such a crap system for fault finding. You need speakers plugged in and listen for either a ping noise or a repeated wah noise.

If you connect the COH board straight to a RGB monitor you should see something like this:
Also the board goes "beep beep beep" while it's at that blue screen.
No video might mean the PS2 board is damaged.
P.S.: The Namco board disables the video while it's not init preventing you from seeing that screen.

Hi,
I don't even get that blue screen just black screen and the speakers don't beep or make any sound.
I'll follow grantspain advice and get a new drive.
Any more ideas?

I've replied to one of your many threads on the i-nets (and you didn't reply back).
Until the 246 is booted the DVD drive will not respond, If your system can't boot the dongle then changing out the drive will do absolutely nothing. It sounds like you have a bad unit or again you're missing the dongle error message (visually or audio).

Re: Dead Namco system 246
Hi and thanks,
I managed to get my unit working. Problem was the dongle. My unit has perfectly working audio, video, DVD and IO board, but for some reason C version of System 246 won't beep or make any sound or show any screen if the dongle is broken ( or maybe I have one with very specific error).
Someone put this on the wiki!
