CPS 2 battery change
Hi everyone!
I am new here. I have just bought an Egret II from Ronnie
I would like to ask if it is difficult to change the suicide battery in a CPS2 and how do you when you have to change it again
Thanks,
Art

I believe the encryption keys are lost once the voltage drops below 2.0V

Re: CPS 2 battery change
There's no conclusive way really. The voltage should drop as the battery discharges but I've heard conflicting reports about how near the end of life this is apparent.sirarthurahf wrote:Thanks a lot guys.

The consensus is you should change the battery every 4-5 years, although personally I have had batteries that were 14 and 16 years old still working (The shelf-life is only supposed to be 10 years usually).
The batteries cost about £5 so if you are in any doubt, change it.

I've just measured a 19 year old board with the original battery, still read 3.6v

Re: CPS 2 battery change
Remember that this type of battery doesn't have a gradual drop in voltage. It seems to only be possible to know if they are "going bad" by measuring the internal resistance of the battery, with an ESR meter. It is possible to have an idea of batteries that are approaching the end of their useful lives.
I've changed around 50-60 batteries, and did this spreadsheet with the ESR values of some of the batteries I have replaced:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... sp=sharing"
As you can see higher ESR values - above 2 - start to loose voltage always. I would be cautious and replace anything above 0.8 though.
I am not saying that the "5 year rule" is not to be followed, I and just sating I have a lot of data.
It would be good to run some statistics on these values, I've collected at least 30 more batteries since I made these measurements.

Yep. Cellpack Solutions, aka CPS.CPS2 wrote:http://cellpacksolutions.com/"Switchblade wrote:Hi do you know the best place to get the batteries in the UK any recommendations.
Tadiran: http://cellpacksolutions.com/Search_Dat ... ID=SL350/P"
Saft: http://cellpacksolutions.com/Search_Dat ... S14250-CNA"
These two are pretty much identical. As far as I am aware, Tadiran's battery division is owned by Saft Groupe.
BuyaBattery.co.uk also sell the Saft one: http://www.buyabattery.co.uk/saft-ls142 ... wires.html"
