With the modbios you can choose any region at startup.
My Princess Kurara Daisakusen works fine with it ;)

Getting a modbios is probably a better solution than getting a new japanese motherboard. You can pick one up on ebay for about $20 bucks. Or I'm sure someone here can burn one for you.
