Storage space inside Naomi base

Anyone here managed to fit a Naomi system/with GD drive and PC MAME setup inside their Naomi cabinet?
This is what I'm toying with but unsure the best way to set this up and what to use to switch between the two. I don't have the kit at the moment to try setting it up myself so I'm trying to work it out with pictures of other peoples cabs as examples.

If anyone has done this - do you mind posting some pictures of how you've sardine'd them into the box? and how you go about the switcheroo..

There's a mounting board the Naomi bolts onto - I've fitted a de-cased PC onto that board and its fits inside OK - I think I've got a picture somewhere.

Theres alot more room in a gun cab base as theres no coin box, not sure if you could take the coinbox bit out of a normal one, might be welded?

I am planning on using a PC with it at some point but I'm just going to have an IO plate on the back of the cab with VGA/USB/Audio headers to connect the two.

For switching between the two I would suggest using some manual VGA and USB switch boxes like the ones below. You can't use an automatic USB switch box as JVS isn't actually USB and doesn't follow the protocol etc, it just uses the same physical wiring which is why you need a manual switch.

I have that exact switch in my cabinet but since I took my PC out it's just sitting there, all alone like.

You could go for a VGA "Y" Cable intead of the switch box. Very cheapon Ebay but you will also need the CORRECT VGA Gender Benders. Cheap too.

I have done this for my Dreamcast / PC in Naomi. Works fine. I have to make sure that both Dreamcast and PC are not both switched on at the same time which is not a problem as I have a twin socket electric socket. One has the Monitor plugged in and therefore I can only have on of Dreamcast or PC plugged in.

DOH! well I've already bought an ArcadeVGA3000 because I thought I needed one - so should use it. Can anyone here for sure work out that I can use one of these cards inside this Shuttle?

No d00d, you're good to go. Though if you're going to go this way, you'll have to use an upscaler as well to go from 31k to 15k on the monitor unless the AVGA3000 supports 31k.

I built a MAME PC using a mini-ITX motherboard. It's only 17x17 cm and I mounted it using regular PCB mounting feet on the backside of the coin compartment, i.e. without a chassis. This means it's right behind the transformer and not in the way for anything else you want to put in the cab. My motherboard has a build in graphics card but I think there should be just enough room for an Arcade VGA.

I'm using a 500 Gb 2.5" HD that's small enough to rest on top of the coin compartment on some foam.

On the image below, you can see that I've also mounted a JVS-PAC above the PC in the same way.

I've removed the small plate on the backside of the cab base, allowing me to run video and pad hack cables to external cable boxes, to save space and to enable easy switching. One of the cable boxes contains a power brick for the Xbox 360 and another one for the small PICO PSU for the PC, again to save space inside the cab.

A JPN Xbox 360 rests on top of the base together with an XRGB-3.

The XRGB-3 is for upscaling of JAMMA games (monitor is a Nanao 2932, great picture but 31khz only).

When I want to play JAMMA games, I simply switch the Naomi mounting board to one that has a Namco jamma adapter.

Future plans include finding a way to mount the Namco adapter permanently inside the cab, which hopefully could make me find a way to fit at least a small Jamma PCB at the same time as the Naomi motherboard. My dream is to be able to switch between a Cave PCB, Ikaruga, XBox 360 and a Mame PC without too much hassle

Sure, I'll try to help out if I can.

My solution may be a bit unconventional, but it provides a simple way to fit a lot into the cab and at the same time allows me to easily switch source and plug in external units such as the 360 that I don't have room for in the cab.

So, via the opening in the back (that I got from removing the detachable small back plate) I can plug in a VGA cable for video (to another VGA cable that runs directly to the monitor) and 2 pad hacks (Dsub-15 connectors, my custom solution for pad hacks that runs up to the control panel and the I/O board).

My original high-flying plan was to panel-mount cables to the detachable back plate to get tidy inputs for video, pad hacks and USB (the JVS signals) but in the end I just opted for the simpler and more flexible solution of simply removing the plate altogether and plug it into extension cables.
