stepdownconverter Japanese XBOX360 question?

Post by almighty »

What kind of stepdownconverter do i need to connect to my import 360 or can i use the same one i have for the pal system?
And can i connect the europian HD to my Japanese 360?Will this work?
I dont want to blow up my imported 360

For systems like the PS2/DC Japanese i use 45W and works fine.

I've got a 300W Maplin stepdown for my Jpn 360

http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=13358"

Although if you have a PAL 360 you can use the power brick from that on it so could bypass the need for one.
Obviously though they both need to be the same model with as I think recenlty UK/Jpn systems have had a reduction in the power brick wattage (Think it's down to 175w or something)

As for HDD your Pal one will be fine just plug it in.
But for the cost I'd personally buy a second one to save constant swapping...2nd hand 20GB one's can be had for about £20 now

175W Elite PSU is what you need for the new arcade unit at least. I got one off ebay. Tidier than another huge stepdown.

I'd check first the Japanese psu isn't switching... if it is it'll be marked with the input voltage range it can take (should be 110vac - 240vac) and you don't then need a stepdown transformer.
Most modern power supplies are switching...... doesn't seem to stop people telling people they need stepdown transformers though. *sigh*

My misses plugs her 110v Japanese chargers and stuff into the 240v mains over here all the time. Most modern PSUs are switching and will work even if they aren't marked that they can tolerate 240v.
Her DS supply (110v marked) worked for a good couple months and then gave up, the transformer can probably take 240v but the rectifiers on the way are probably cheaper ones in 110v marked PSUs and can't handle 240v for that long.

I got my power thing from here

http://www.voltageconverters.com/"

I didn't bother checking if they have what you need but I don't see why they wouldn't

It's actually cheaper in many instances to obtain a PSU here in the UK and just plug it into the Japanese unit, perhaps sticking the original 110vac supply into the attic.

eBay regularly has 360 spare parts due to out of warranty 360 failure. Tonight on local to me went for less than £10.00 so keep an eye open for bargains!

So far I've had 8 x 360 units and frankly NONE of the overseas units came with a suitable PSU for the UK supply.

Also, I have the newer HDMI version of 360 and so far (touch wood) no overheating issues, although I don't trust it lol
