Why would someone with a supergun want a 4 slot? Surely a 1 slot MV-1A/B would be much better.

Re: Four slot on supergun - garbled screen, not booting?
Hey Kern, I don't have an answer unfortunately, just thought it might be worth mentioning I've experienced a whole host of different results between superguns and cabs, with cabs always being the reliable and superguns the unreliable.
I've had everything from no/fuzzy sound, weird graphical issues and even blank screens with my supergun - all of which are magically rectified when the board goes into the cab.
Recently I sold my Undercover Cops to a guy in the US who was complaining of the image flickering like the H-hold was out of control after a few minutes of play. I told him to try it on his mate's Blast City and it ran like a charm first time. The issue with the supergun is still unknown on that one.
So yeah, I would tell the dude to grab an MVS cart and do his best to test it on a cab before drawing any conclusions.
Just my two bits!

Re: Four slot on supergun - garbled screen, not booting?
Yeah, his analysis is an ideal that doesn't exist. I'm confident the internal power wiring of the Supergun was responsible for most of the problems (it's a kettle lead out the back jobbie) although I recall weird issues such as distorted sound being near impossible to determine the cause of. Either way, the supergun was responsible for ton of operating discrepancies.kernow wrote:Indeed sir, thats what I'm trying to get across, but he already replied with:
Which I must say I disagree with, everyone knows you get varying results with a supergun and a cab, especially as the PSU in this setup is being described as '300w' which makes me think its an ATX power supply.I'll check it all again and try and take some pics but whether it's running 'in' a cab, on a test rig, commercial SG or whatever wouldn't affect the board - all it needs is enough power and a display - 300w is more than enough though for a 2/4 slot - certainly when empty!
Point him towards this thread and then possibly to a local arcade op who might be able to fire it up for him on a cab.

Re: Four slot on supergun - garbled screen, not booting?
In some of the super guns ive seen, the wiring inside between the jamma connector and the power input was not of a high enough gauge (uber thin wire) so with some boards when the load increased you got some corruption or it would just completely cut out as the video hardware couldn't get enough power.

Re: Four slot on supergun - garbled screen, not booting?
Hey guys - I bow to those of vastly more experience with this sort of thing - seems if the power supply is thought to be the problem then I will look into it more.
Slightly peeved that all this is out in a topic already with my PM's aired in public and I may come out the bad guy. Hopefully Kern will back me up in that my PM's have been polite and gentlemanly! And I would not (and have not) ask for a refund - these things happen and I was happy to leave feedback before even testing the borad. If it ends up not working then that's life and I'll put it down to experience.
I'm no electrical engineer but I've modded many a console and built things in the last 20 years and the rig this is running on could not be more basic - a Jamma loom wired to the power, RGB etc out to a DIN and a D socket wired for a Neo Geo controller. All done properly with decent guage wire and good joints.
As I say it checks out fine with everything else (not much to go wrong in effect) but not with the 4 slot (with or without carts). If everyone thinks the power is likely to be the problem then I will get that sorted. It is indeed a ATX 300w supply. I will try and get some screen pics up.

Re: Four slot on supergun - garbled screen, not booting?
Hey Kern, I really appreciate you posting that.
As I say though we've both got good feedback and these things happen!
Someone asked earlier why a 4-slot? Reason is I have a consolized 2 slot but up until this morning I thought I had finally found a NAC (that needed the 4-slot) that was recently posted for sale on here and could do the deal but rather like being gazumpped on a house the price has risen from £550 to £650 as my interest in it has grown...... been a shi**y day all things considered...

Re: Four slot on supergun - garbled screen, not booting?
Don't forget the MV4 will be MVS wired too so if your using a JAMMA supergun you could damage the MV4 as you'll be shorting out the audio channels.
2 * Vewlix Diamond Blacks,2 * Vewlix-F, 1 * Sega Rally 3, 1 * Video Pinball, 1 * DinoKing (JAMMA Converted).

Re: Four slot on supergun - garbled screen, not booting?
Yes, check that - Kern supplied it with a simple fingerboard adapter that cuts those pins but in case that was causing a problem I have plugged the Jamma straight in without the adaptor after first temporarily disconnecting the same lines on my loom.penrhos wrote:Don't forget the MV4 will be MVS wired too so if your using a JAMMA supergun you could damage the MV4 as you'll be shorting out the audio channels.

Is that with the board connected at the Jamma edge or with it empty?mpoilu wrote:Getting + 5.19 and + 12.26 on the Jamma socket....

[puts on tin hat]
Errr, well, hmmmm.....that was on the Jamma socket......just been back up again - board connected and under load (no carts in the slots ) and it's down to + 4.35
The 2 slot meanwhile (with 2 carts in) is on + 4.97
Errrrr, these 4 slots need a bit of juice don't they??!
Errrmmm, I'm going to bed.

Re: Four slot on supergun - garbled screen, not booting?
I have a newish switching Jamma PSU if you need one. It doesn't have -5v though (I just bought one with -5v to replace it) but you shouldn't need that for MVS. £10 posted if you do want/need it.

Re: Four slot on supergun - garbled screen, not booting?
Hi Franco - cheers, appreciate the offer.
Planning to put this in a cab so I may as well wait until I find one to test/use it in. Also if getting a power supply, like you did I might be best going for one with -5 to cover all bases.
If doing this what do people suggest for a good economical but reliable model?
