System 16 Revival Query

Post by dj_johnnyg »

Hi All,

Anyone know if the MAME System 16 roms are the decrypted ones so I can try fix a dead Tetris, or do I need to keep looking???

Thanks

From looking at MAWS, there don't appear to be any unprotected sets for System 16 Tetris.

Incidentally, do you have a 16A (two large boards) or a 16B (one large board and a smaller ROM board)?

Chris Hardy at http://www.segaresurrection.com/" would be able to provide you with the relevant unprotected binaries, but you would also need to replace the FD1094 with a normal 68000.

http://www.arcadecollecting.com/dead/dead.html" refers to a bootleg set as a fix.

It's a 16A :) Johnny is looking at doing the revival on my behalf.

Thanks Womble that's great :) One last question! Where can I find the Product Number on the PCB? I've looked everywhere and have turned up empty handed. It's definitely an official board, I'm thinking I must be looking right over it. I need it to identify which set we should be burning. Cheers

On stickers that may or may not have fallen off :)

Usually you will find a 315-xxx number on a sticker on top of the encrypted CPU block, this is often missing or so badly roughed up its illegible Alternatively you can attempt to match up the numbers on the roms with the ones in the mame set, eprxxxx and mprxxxx for the eproms and the mask roms. Use this site http://www.segaresurrection.com/" which shows which eproms you will need to change based on what PCB you have, then google the EPR numbers on the chips you find at that location on your board and it will tell you which game set they come from, ie which 315-xxxx you need. Its the long way round the same circle :)

Thanks again. The sticker on the CPU is indeed removed, with only the sticky layer present.
On the Sega Resurrection site they haven't circled which ERPROMs need to be changed on the System16A ( http://www.segaresurrection.com/images/ ... ndrome.jpg" ) . Lend a hand :)?

Ah yes, thats not very helpful. If the eproms still have their stickers on them you can find out what set of numbers your board has (ie EPRxxxx for eproms) and then compare to the MAME sets. The mask roms are named MPRxxxx but are likely to be identical for all versions of the game so you can ignore those. Only one game set will have the same set of numbers, that should allow you to work out the 315-xxx number of the board. I would focus on the block of 6 eproms in the middle of the top board, the pair you need to replace (ie the main executable code) live in there.

Might be best to bring the board up next weekend when you collect the Uni.

Shouldn't take too long to romident the necessary & burn replacements
