I've got a bum board.
Few questions for those who can help.
Are those really a series of 16 pin optocouplers there? The NEC 2501. They are all rusted off the board.
Also what's that 8 pin chip by A-1 on the motherboard? I can't see past all the oxidation on my board.
My first time on a Sega 16 board.

The FD1094 is corroded to hell anyway. It's like getting shot and run over by a truck right after. Haha.

Are you talking about Nec PS2501-4 used for the input buttons ? You can replace them with 16 pins Sharp PC817 too.

I got the components on their way now. I'll make an update soon as I start the thing. Let me know if you guys spot anything I'm doing wrong.
Also I hear it's possible to just forgo the suicide chip and not have it on there at all?

Yes, it is.

Depending of your game revision, you will have to replace the crypted FD block CPU with 68K CPU @ 10 MHz (in the case of a crypted main CPU) or with Z80 CPU @ 6 MHz (in the case of a crypted sound CPU) + the decrypted romset (program roms or sound roms) matching your game revision to burn and install too (you can find and grab the decrypted romset @ jammarcade.net).
