Konami boards

Post by onetunafish »

Hello!

I'm new here, just recently I've acquired a supergun and now I'm looking for some arcade boards. I'm a konami collector for all systems, so why not arcade too? lol

So I'd like to ask for recommendations of which games to get first (or where to get them, ebay seems to carry some abusive prices), my super gun has a konami to jamma adapter so non-jamma is fine too.

Your help and advice will be very much appreciated.

You could start by getting some of the older 80's games, ones that were converted to MSX, Spectrum etc. They're ususally pretty cheap. I've listed my Konami games below. With the Konami to JAMMA adapter, be aware that some games don't use the joystick, i.e. the sports games.

JAMMA games:
Asterix
Contra
Salamander
Salamander 2
Sunset Riders
Super Contra
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles (UK 2 Players)
The Simpsons

Konami Classic adapter (buttons):
Hyper Olympic
Hyper Sports

Konami Classic adapter (joystick):
Green Beret
Gyruss
Konami's Ping-Pong (slightly peculiar pinout on this)
Mikie
Nemesis
Super Basketball
Time Pilot
Time Pilot '84
Tutankham
Yie Ar Kung-Fu

I paid £660 in total for all of these games, most expensive was The Simpsons, cheapest was Yie Ar Kung-Fu. So that's pretty good. Akumkajou Dracula is very expensive though, watch out for that one especially.

Konami is awesome, the msx got me addicted to it. I just recently started collecting (8 months or so) and my quest is to have all official konami games for consoles and computers whatever I can get arcade wise.

I would add Aliens and Crime fighters to the list. Both have good music and Crime fighters can be picked up pretty cheap.

Thunder Cross II, worth getting for the music alone! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5miFFlgWpw The game itself is also a very fun shooter, and it's a pcb exclusive. :)
Stronger then your average deadite.

Just be sure you have a set up for both vertical and horizontal games if you pan on getting all of those recommended PCBs :)

Super Contra is a vertical oriented game for example -

Too bad the current sellers on US ebay seem to think that it is worth at least $275.

I had the 4-player version a while back and preferred the Super Nintendo version tbh and sold it. It only sold for £60 a few years ago so not sure why it's now so expensive?

Good Konami boards I've got and would recommend;

TMHT
Crime Fighters 2
X-Men
Sunset Riders
Aliens
Thunder Cross

Xexex (ゼクセクス)

Interesting game made by the same team that made Gradius II GOFER no Yabou.

Great music and speech, quite a challenging game though, I bought mine last year.
