Capcom Mini Cute Restoration

Post by aeroflott »

So I picked up a project Cute recently, and have started the journey of restoring it.

How do you get from this to this?

Image

I'm not entirely sure at this point, but I'm determined to finish the job. There is a TON of work to do here - a paint job done by a blind man, an oversized incorrect monitor, screen burn, hacked metal parts and a butchered control panel.

Read the first part of the restoration here (lots of pics):

If anyone has a spare Mini Cute control panel, please get in touch!

Cheers!

Great job so far, you may want to reach out to alberto too.

Between hursit and alberto, they should get you sorted.

Good luck trying to find a replacement monitor that fits in there. That will probably be the hardest part about the restoration.
Wanted: SNK Candy 18 spares. Mainly looking for a marquee holder & the "video games" sign.

I bought these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271371859386 - shielded versions are also available if you want to be mega fussy, but I figured the extra cost wasn't necessary as the originals weren't shielded either.

Final part of the restoration is here:

Super pleased with how it turned out. If anyone has a lead on some control panel lock tangs, do let me know.

Cheers!

I'd consider 3D printing as well for quick/easy/cheap resolution. Maybe @battlesmurf can repro the tangs?

Thanks all - its been one of the more satisfying restorations I've done.

I was saying to someone else earlier that I'm surprised at how useable the form factor of the Cute actually is. I'm 6'2", and have no issues sitting in front of the screen to play.

The temptation to get all three colours is strong, not sure I have the bank balance for it though!
