Yeah, $170 + the rest, **** to that.

Today I decided to just do this instead. Cost £35 and fifteen minutes...

Looks like it's missing NeoGeo (which is under console) and the CPS core(s).

That list is missing NeoGeo (filed under console but can be configured as MVS), Dodonpachi, Ghosts n Goblins, 1942, SF1 (and other early Capcom games), CPS1, CPS1.5, CPS2 and god knows what else.

I don’t know what qualifies a core for the official list but Jotego’s cores are superb.

Running Update_All installs them all, except CPS2 which he’s currently dripping out on Fridays.

I love the fact Jotego is dropping 3 CPS2 games per week instead of just dumping the lot!

I have a MiSTer setup on a PVM and it’s as good as I can get now I don’t have cabs anymore :cry:

Mr Do! is almost ready to drop I think too.

:awe:

So that's just a HDMI->VGA converter & JPAC? Does it work well, much of a faff to get working?

Nope.

I’d previously tested it and ran the update while connected to an LCD.

Before connecting to a 15k CRT you have to make these changes in the mister.ini
direct_video=1
And under [Menu_mode]...
Video_mode=480,12,48,36,240,4,3,16,9089
vga_scaler=1

...This is just one example mode that makes the menu 15khz friendly.

There’s also a handy line you can uncomment to configure inputs for jpac or jammasd. This explains itself in the ini comments.

Then you plug it in as you would a PC. As you can see in the photo I cut an old power lead and nicked the 5v from the Jamma PSU, so that it would be powered by the cab.

I fortunately already had a VGA dongle that Cools once gave me for some reason I don’t know. Thanks cools. :whoopsie: You just want a cheapo thing that passes a signal, nothing fancy.

If using a jpac you’ll also want an audio amp. I haven’t done this bit yet but I have one at home I can pick up. Cost me £3 from China iirc.

It’s funny, until yesterday I’d been planning to wait months for a mistercade before connecting it to a cab. Seems silly now.

This might not be the best method to connect it up. I’m not sure what advantages a bespoke board has but I guess it’s been tuned for the mister in some ways. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Invizm has something in the works. I’ll keep an eye on that one.

Yeah, I don’t know what’s involved in building each core but it must be a nice bonus that it keeps the hype running for his Patreon’s with early access. Still, that’s how people work these days and it enables him to do what he does. It’ll all drop for free eventually like his previous cores. I’ve never used Patreon but I’m thinking of signing up myself. Not that I’m in a rush for CPS2 but I want in on the fan club excitement. :fastlove:

This is looking really promising indeed. Nice setup Joe.

Not sure if it'll be relevant, but possibly worth remembering for others. I seem to remember the ArPiCade dude had issues with certain HDMI -> VGA adaptors in the past. Some batches he ordered didn't work nicely for an unknown reason. Definitely something worth noting for people in the future who get this setup and have video issues.

Good point.

I saw a list of some verified adapters somewhere, I thought it’d be easy to find again but I bloody can’t now.

I had no idea if this one would work until I tried it, but it looks just like the ones that I’d seen verified as working so I was hopeful. It’d probably make life easier if it split audio though. :think:

One thing worth noting is you don’t actually need any of the Mister add-on boards. The DE10 Nano (£115 posted from Digi-Key) and some SDRam (128MB is £50 from MisterFPGA.co.uk or about £32 from AliExpress*) will run everything on an LCD. Plus a few quid for a VGA dongle and you’re set if you have a compatible CRT.

*Apparently around 20% of the 128MB modules have issues with certain Cores, so you’re probably buggered for returns if you buy from AliExpress. For the saving I’d maybe still risk it but I was excited and wanted it to arrive quick, so I bought from MisterFPGA.

I’d bet it would, but I want to read more about audio when I finish work. I haven’t sorted mine yet. Some people say they got a hdmi dongle with audio splitter after disappointing sound quality from the i/o. I’m not sure if this is about the DE10 nano itself or one of the mister i/o boards though.

There are threads out there with product recommendations. I did find a list of twenty yesterday but then lost it. Found a few recommendations dotted around though.

I went through a few of those cheap passive HDMI > VGA adapters when connecting ps4/xbone to my projector most had an issue of some kind.

I got an HDFury in the end and never had any problems with it.

I think this is a different requirement though. The HDMI port is used but the data sent through it is direct video when selected.

Not 100% on this but It can do something similar with USB so that it’s not actually ‘USB’. No polling, no drivers, a serial connection but just using the USB port.
