Current Arcade Situation in Tokyo
Posted: June 28th, 2020, 11:55 am
Hi all, this is my second topic; I’d like to give back to the community after so many helped me in getting my Astro City working.
For those who checked out that thread (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=41624) you may recall I live in Tokyo. I’m sure I’m not the only one based in Tokyo on this forum, but anyway I haven’t seen anything about the current status of arcades here since the Crowdfunding post back in April, so I thought I would do a little post to keep you informed.
Th crowdfunding worked wonders for Mikado, so they seem to be doing fine. Arcades were permitted to reopen on June 11th, and since then it seems they have all been putting the same safety precautions into effect: requiring masks, having disinfectant available at the entrances, and putting up dividers between the cabinets.
While I am still avoiding using the train (it’s been almost 3 months) I have been to my local arcade, Cube (in a place called Koenji), so here are some photos of these changes:
As you can see, the above practices are put into effect, but finally we can go to arcades again after over two months of them being closed, so that is a relief. Again, I haven’t hopped on the train yet so I haven’t ventured to Akihabara, but as far as I know no arcades have closed as a result of the pandemic... if you’ve heard otherwise please post here. I will continue to update this tread about arcades in Tokyo as I find out, and others are welcome to do the same.
Glad Mikado is still standing— thanks to all who donated!
