Noooo. The solution is more about processing and luminance/contrast levels. Throwing millions more pixels in might be satisfying under a magnifying glass but it’s not that helpful to the overall image. Especially when playing at a normal distance. Thats more about how colours react with eachother and how the light blooms. You only see sub-pixel details if you’re specifically focussing on them, whereas you always see the light and radiance that those sub-pixels create. That’s what would have to be emulated.

Look at some of the CRT porn photos. A good photo of a CRT, viewed on an LCD monitor or phone, still looks excellent, even under 1080p. That’s the goal to aim for. Some of the filters on recentish retro releases have been really close.
I agree but with a caveat. On a detailed, moving image with lots of stuff going on more pixels doesn't help. But on a static screen with areas of flat colour, the texture generated even at 4K is nowhere close to a CRT - especially a bigger CRT.

May be just me, but "clean" CRTs like BVMs seem to be more easily simulated than arcade monitors where crap is all over the place.

I can imagine we'd have displays in the next 10 years that are flexible / malleable / pliable enough to be applied to any shape.... and can be cut to any required size.
The need for displays to be formed unusual shapes and sizes will see it get done. Of course, feel free to dig this thread up in 10 years to take the pee at the false optimism ;)

I think scanning laser projection can be a viable option. I looked into the idea a few years ago and it should be possible even as a semi-DIY project (think complexity of something like the OSSC in terms of "DIY") with off the shelf RGB lasers and resonant galvanometers. You need to process the sync signal, turn it into a signal to drive the galvos, the lasers, some mirrors, and a rear projection screen.

(NB: scanning laser projection is very different from DLP laser projection, which is just DLP with a laser light source. Sony had a scanning laser picoprojector a few years back, which used a single XY galvo that scanned in basically an oval pattern with a fresnel lens in front of it to turn it into a rectangle.)

Grant replaced the flyback and a dozen caps on my chassis from my NAOMI Upright earlier this year, after it failed suddenly. It’s back up and running now, but the fact that such spares will at some point be unobtainable was apparent.

I’m hoping there will be some kind of solution. This is my only cabinet at present, and if the monitor ever fails and it’s no longer viable to repair it, then I don’t really have a plan.

Something tells me I should have picked up a pure flat NAOMI bezel when they were still available, as that would likely be more useful should the solution be an LCD retrofit.
