I'm guessing an exa pc + game will be cheaper than what SDOJ goes for nowadays? Provided there even is one available that is.

It should be a bit cheaper. But it won't be the same exact game as the original SDOJ (this new version will obviously have exclusive gameplay differences - I am excited to see what they are!).

At least one Mame dev has said that they'll add the game to Mame as soon as someone sends them the files. However, getting those files means removing surface mounted components possibly rendering the board completely useless. No collector would ever lend their board for the job if it means their $5000 game could become a door stop. That would mean a board would have to be purchased for this specific task. But there's your problem, Mame users are basically cheapskates and would never put any money in to any pot.

So not happening any time soon.

I've heard that too. I find it more than likely. However, as long as the devs responsible for adding content to Mame haven't got them, it's a moot point.
