True. It could be saving bookkeeping.
Tanoshimasu really need to look in to their save routine. I don't buy it that it isn't an issue in Japan.

Return to the game select menu before shutting off to ensure you won't lose your data.
Still 0 reports of any Japanese operator with this issue.
Japanese arcades will not kick off players off a machine even if it is past closing time nor do they immediately shut down every machine once customers leave so the machines aren't being shut off on the high score entry or the test menu where this bug could occur.

Another 1CC to throw on the pile:
Of the three misses in this run, two are easily fixable, so I’m going to try and push for the TLB before P-47 Aces mk2 is out.

Re: Aka & Blue Type R
Thanks! This game is just so frigging good, it’s amazing.
After 90h of practice, I am now at a point where I can clear the game semi-casually. There is a special ending screen if you can no-miss stage 5 + Kuro (?), that teases Tanoshimasu’s next game. Next goal is TLB!
To note that an update that lowers the input lag to 2 frames (from 3 with 1.2.0) is out; I will be sending my copy today and will report back as soon as it arrives.
It’s going to be tough not being able to play this game for a whole week.

Re: Aka & Blue Type R
Just got my cartridge back from exA support, updated to version 1.2.0T (which stands for “Turbo”, according to people in the know.)
The game feels even more responsive compared to 1.2.0, which already played quite well! Impressive feat.
Early benchmarks consistently show <2 frames of input delay in the menus on my Vewlix Diamond Black.

Re: Aka & Blue Type R
Finally reached the TLB during my 21st clear on Christmas Day.
Emphasis on "reached" because beating it is going to be another story.
Very cool fight with unique mechanics and visual effects.
Now to study the video and become consistent enough to practice it regularly.

Re: Aka & Blue Type R
Sent a few games for update and Shou graciously offered to update my cartridge to a test version with support for their new upcoming fast fast Vewlix IO which I am beta-testing.
The new IO is based on the open-source td-io and is a drop-in replacement for Vewlix cabinets.
With that update, I was able to confirm the game is down to 1 frame of lag on a Vewlix Diamond Black with stock monitor (or more precisely, ~7 frames at 240fps compared to 11frames before.)
This makes the game even more of a joy to play. Dare I even say it feels easier now?
86 clears (and counting!) with 5 times reaching the TLB. It sure is a tough cookie, but I hope to beat it one day.

That’s pretty cool. I’m holding off on shipping any carts in until I have at least a few in need of an upgrade. 1 frame of lag is pretty bonkers when you consider where A&B started. Not quite as bonkers as someone finishing the game 86 times though

Haha, whatever it takes to beat the TLB!Unknownsou wrote: ↑August 27th, 2022, 9:34 am Not quite as bonkers as someone finishing the game 86 times though
Need to no-miss the game to reach him, so he’s a bit tough to practice properly. I still have no idea on how to approach any of his patterns.
As for updating your games, it may be worth waiting a tiny bit. Shou shared with me that exA is planning to work on an official 1.2.1 update of Aka&Blue that will both add support for the IO and address the save bug a bit later this year.

If new features are being considered I'd still like an option to have different pricing for continues.

Re: Aka & Blue Type R
After 3.5 years of practice and 132 clears, I was finally able to beat the TLB on his 14th appearance!
Truly my favorite game of all time, and by far my proudest game-related achievement.

Re: Aka & Blue Type R
Nice work. Congrats.
There are some excellent games on this system, but A&B remains the number one reason to buy one IMO. Comfortably my favourite post-CAVE shmup.
