You don't pay customs on private stuff sent to yourself. Shipping is very reasonable from Japan.

For **** sake (pun intended) it would have been a smarter move to just ship 22KG via post and then take 23 with you, and it would have been cheaper, and zero risk of stuff getting stuck in customs. Or was it a big item a' 55KG?

Yeah, your customs is pretty lax in Sweden if you can pull of things like that. In Finland the tax limit is 45 euros including shipping, anything over that will be taxed. Doesn't matter if it's you you're sending it to.

IMO take everything as luggage.

Technically, it's 22 euros for merchandise, 45 euros for gifts here. I'm pretty sure it's the same for everyone in the EU. The values will slightly differ depending on the VAT rate (we have 24%).

I see, you're confusing customs duty with VAT. They're two different things. The limit for customs duty is around 160 euros. However, very few goods get charged customs duty. It's stuff like alcohol and tobacco, not electronic goods.
