Tension's rising... there's another half week of school holiday left in Germany, and if I'm lucky I'll get my copy before it's over...

It is annoying that there's still almost no details on the NG version, though, even though it's supposedly near completion. Beyond a couple of vague statements that there would be some visual enhancements for the Neo version, there's been nothing... nor any indication of how the controls will be tweaked or how the soundtrack would be retooled for the Neo sound chip.

But the base game is great, so I've got high hopes.

The game is great! However the megadrive six button layout isn't really working out, it's obviously designed with a modern twin stick and double trigger controller in mind. They also messed up the rolling mechanism. You can't roll unless you're not shooting! The roll is an evasive maneuver and should override all other control input, but now you have to stop shooting, and then press roll again. This ruins the gameplay imo, I'd prefer to keep a shoot button pressed at all times, then roll, and when roll animation is finished you immediately start shooting again.

I agree, but I also have to say I got used to it by now; still would have been better the way you described it.

A guy on UKVAC spoke to them about a month ago and they told him it'd be a matter of 'weeks not months' for the AES and MVS versions. According to that schedule it should be any time now, but I reckon more realistically it'll still be months.

I’m waiting on people’s opinions before I get involved with the MVS version...

I have the MD and it’s great, but I can’t imagine there’s enough difference to warrant the extra expense.

The difference to the base game is going to be an exclusive attract demo and a credit counter in the corner (kind of like most exA releases ;)).

I don't think they have anything else in the works now that Battle Axe is out, so fingers crossed the Neo version will release soon-ish.

My AES copy will just end up sat on a shelf forever now. I've played the game enough on Game Pass now.

I wonder if it will play nicely with a multi slot...

Just tried Kraut Buster in a four slot, and it ran fine but once selected the machine couldn’t move on to the next game.

Last update in December 2020 was.

"
The MVS, AES and NGCD integrations are also complete - one of the key things for us has been ensuring that our games behave and act just like original games on those platforms did. So we’re pleased to say that we’ve now implemented what we believe to be the correct behaviours when interacting with the bios in the various combinations of machine set-ups, supporting MVS/AES standard and also Unibios/NeoSD modified behaviours. This means that all of the standard features you expect like software dips, memory card support, backup memory, and book-keeping all behave as expected.

The remaining bits of software development are shrinking by the day, most focus at the moment is on Neo Geo specific polish, things like scaling sprites, extra frames, more palettes, better colour depth than the Mega Drive (like in the HQ above), more sprite details. We expect to go gold very soon, and we will let you know when we do!"

Considering how long the wait has been for the Neo Geo cart, there better be some extra content.

I think they just underestimated what a ball ache developing and manufacturing carts for the Neo can be.

If anyone is thinking this will have more content and markedly better visuals, you will be severely disappointed.

That's largely what I thought, Nem.

I reckon, if there's a cool attract mode, and it plays nicely with a multi slot, I'll get involved.

If not I'll stick with the MD version. Might even hook it up to a cab anyway :)
