Sigma Arcade Cabinets
I'm actually curious. No one's ever talk about these so far over here.
I've come across a lot of them during my childhood. I didn't even know they were japanese until very recently, but it seems the documentation on these are few and far between.
They came in many different forms too. Is there a reason no one's talking about them?

Do you have pics? They might be shut so no one likes them
<trk>:I remember catching a big fat one and my friend said "throw it back in, that one already tastes like wood"

Re: Sigma Arcade Cabinets
Well the most well known of the bunch seems to be the Game Explorer, which looked like a strange mashup between a Blast city and some Capcom cab or whatnot.
There's also this one, which actually looks pretty cool. Also I remember a fully metal one back home in Malaysia in the early 90s maybe? They had many different types. I wonder if anyone of you guys know the other varieties of Sigma cabs? IOt's funny how "rare" they've become? They were pretty ubiquitous in most of Asia at one point. At least that\s what I think.

Also yeah, this is the same Sigma that does superguns now. They were making arcade cabinets way back when.

Re: Sigma Arcade Cabinets
I've only ever seen the control panels. Neat to see the actual cabs.

Re: Sigma Arcade Cabinets
Yeah the Game Explorer isn't a good indication of the range and style of cabs they had. Still it had a decent monitor.geotrig wrote:can't say I've ever heard or seen them before, the game explorers look a bit clone but overall not the worst ,the 2nd lot definitely look interesting
After a bit more research they were also publishers for some 80s titles and they mainly made amusement machines.

Re: Sigma Arcade Cabinets
I recall some Pony IV's with Sigma branding. I cannot find any pic's to confirm but maybe someone remembers? In my head I want to say Jaleco gave the molds/rights to Sigma when they left the cab market...I also could have been heavily sedated when learning all this(there was one FS: in 2014 that I passed on)
Of course the Pony IV is the blandest of the series IMO.

They really dropped the ball on the design of the IV.

Re: Sigma Arcade Cabinets
How could they go from some of the most iconic cabinet designs to that I have no idea.

And there's the Ok Baby, which I don't know if it was a bootleg replica or maybe a licensed use of the mold, but it's super popular here in South America

The Weche ok baby looks similar but it is not the same. The Ok Baby is made out of the Tecmo Kyotaro Excellent. Not the pony.FcoBenitez wrote:And there's the Ok Baby, which I don't know if it was a bootleg replica or maybe a licensed use of the mold, but it's super popular here in South America

Re: Sigma Arcade Cabinets
ones that never really get mentioned is the vision range/brand produced in germany, they are quite good regarding ergonomic aspects if a bit clunky aesthetically (i played on the ones in the ruhr arcade museum) and the monitor can be rotated iirc the whole surround/housing is detachable

Re: Sigma Arcade Cabinets
I've actually seen the first one, that Vision one, around. Also I believe one is still being sold on ebay for a really cheap price. They do look pretty cunky.
Speaking of stuff in the region, I do really like the Royal Video sitdown cabs a lot. They're usually black but you can do something really cool with a paintjob like this. I'll probably get one to do just that.

Re: Sigma Arcade Cabinets
I kind of regret not buying a Royal Video Special when I had the chance. Seemed like a nice cab.
