I would say that it's a modern take on the standard US wooden cabinet that adds the modularity of a candy cab (screen rotation and control panel switch). But the comparison ends here. Moreover, a candy cab is sit-down and this is an upright.

The modularity of the rotation and control panel is what reminds me of candy cabinets in terms of flexible functionality. I rarely see any wooden cabinets with easy monitor rotation. Other than that, the new Exa Arc1 cabinet would be much welcomed, and according to the video blog entry with pinned comment, that wooden cabinet is favorable for various arcade operators due to the cost effectiveness. Metallic or plastic molded sleek cabinets are more expensive to produce and in the current market, the collector size is much too small to make such candy or fancy sit down cabs.

The article also mentions that an updated version of Donut Dodo is coming to EXA as a 'medium price' title :thumbupright:

Takes references from many early 80's games, although missing a harpoon-gun.

steam version of the game show below.

It's Bombjack without flying.

It's fun. I'm not sure if it will hold interest after clearing all five levels, probably not. Steam version is 4 euros 5 euros now.

I think it's a neat release but it's a game I would most definitely put some credits in if I saw it in a game center, but would never buy it for my home.

It's cool to see it get an arcade release.

IAAPA happened and some photos reveal the new Exa Arc-1, the wooden stand up cabinet aimed for operators. The monitor and bezel rotates and control panel can be changed to 1, 2, or 4 player.

Feels that fits better for the Exa Arcadia brand than the the deluxe showcase cabinet. With their spot being between Raw Thrills and Stern pinball, it must have attracted plenty of business operators. Heard from some folks that the price of feature complete cabinet within USA would be around $5k~$6k.

Got all that info from Arcade Heroes:

Looks good. I know having variants makes stuff more expensive, but the CP looks weirdly huge when populated as 1 player only.

Also, I don't like to stand up personally. But marketed as a modern neogeo in America will likely work just fine.

No Black Friday sale on Exa games? No? It's not a consumer product?

okay :(

Maybe Cyber Monday.

(I really just want an excuse to buy a game this week.)

Why is that? Doesnt look like theres any more extensive work on it,and you just flash it on the same drives as all the other games?

Those cabs are everything they need to be for smaller American arcades, functional, robust and relatively affordable. I wouldn't have one anywhere near my gaff but the same can be said for pretty much every American cab since the 80's.

Tanoshimasu has been weird from the start. They probably saw that Touhou and the Cave games were selling for $4-500 more and thought A&B was more of that pedigree than Vritra Hexa and P-47 Aces. The game is an absolute triumph, but between this, the game supposedly going out of print (which never actually happened, obviously), and their draconian approach to Youtube videos of the game... the business side of the house is a head-scratcher.

They also don't sell the game to home users in Japan.

This will be changing in the future as exA takes over all responsibilities of the game.
Voice rights have been handled with to allow streaming/videos of the game per Japanese law (ie this costs money thus the price increase).

A new version of the game has been cut with requested fixes and functionality. 1.2.1 is the final version of the game at 1 frame input lag and JVS' compatbility.

We run a special offer until the end of the year: order an exA-Arcadia system or game at https://www.redsuns.be#exa before January 1st, 2023 to receive a free MP07-IONA-US JVS to USB converter.

This device allows the usage of USB game controllers with your exA-Arcadia, so you can play it without an arcade cabinet.

It supports the JVS' standard, allowing less than 1 frame of input lag.

One MP07-IONA-US per customer, as long as stock lasts.
