Okay.. This video contains comments at the comments section for the more technical folks.
At the comments, the youtube user TheBlackbirdii claimed that the prototype cartridge was NVMe before switching to SATA M2-like cartridge (based on findings from shmups) for final production and they have a beef with slower loading times. I will provide the comment for reference:
If any of you guys know more about those SSD stuff, feel free to lend in the hand.
Please... I want to really know how Neo Geo achieved the instant game switching when having multiple cartridges??? I tried looking everywhere and nothing comes up on how 2-4 neo geo games load up and then be available for instant select.

I somewhat agree with that dude only on loading times because the only multi-game system that pretty much load the fastest like instant is the Neo Geo MVS with multiple slots (2, 4, or rarely 6). No modern arcade system can get close to Neo Geo's instant game switching. For comparison, Taito Nesica and Sega ALL-NET machines do have longer loading times, likely the bootup times, than Exa Arcadia. As long as Exa Arcadia and the developers improve the loading times to be around 30 seconds or less after selecting game, it would be as close as they can get to claiming title as a Neo Geo successor. Modern games with huge file sizes contribute to longer loading times.theBlackBirdii wrote: i forgot to mention the first cartridge prototype were NVMe ssd but the final product are using flash memories similar to the ub flash drive it's kinda disappointment because it doesn't do justice for the high prices they are asking for besides that the loading time are longer now than what presented before

Fixed that for you. I am not a Game center or a collector, but I love my SDOJ PCB and I play it regularly for score. Low input lag + original slowdown means I'm not selling this until I am done scoring.

I hope the USB sticks are very good quality. I had to use one two days ago and it randomly died while plugged in. It got me thinking that I’ve seen more USB stick deaths than any other media. HDs, Cartridges, even CDs, floppy disks or tapes (though I’ve known some tapes go a bit wobbly at specific time points ). And I’ve only ever owned a handful of USB sticks compared to a bedroomful of the others.

There are no in game loading times of note with the shmups and the games don't take long to boot from the menu. It's a non issue. I'm not very knowledgeable on these things, but Neo Geo wasn't a PC, the data is read from the ROM, no data transfer, no launching drivers and such.
And I'm sure they're a high quality brand SSD and Exa support seems to be very good.

Looked into the ROM and it does seem the case that Neo Geo was a product of earlier times with more limited memory and direct access. Modern devices like NVMe and SATA M2 seem to be the equivalent of SSD's the contain games, which does explain that they are different from the ROM cartridges of the 80's and 90's. I don't know much about inner PC parts, but they're nifty to know.SuperPang wrote: ↑June 7th, 2020, 1:28 pm There are no in game loading times of note with the shmups and the games don't take long to boot from the menu. Anyways. I somehow discovered a post on twitter that Infinos Exa gets mentioned from Indie Live Expo 2020:

Games have to load once selected; it's not as if they're running in the background, they are started on demand. The load time isn't terribly bad - only 10 seconds or so - but the screen just goes blank or a random color during the loading process, which probably makes a casual observer think they broke it. Putting up a "now loading" screen would have gone a long way.

The bootup that takes around 10 seconds is for Exa Arcadia hardware.StarCreator wrote: ↑June 7th, 2020, 8:39 pm Games have to load once selected; it's not as if they're running in the background, they are started on demand. The "System Warming Up / Now Loading" part is applied to all game cartridges upon game selection, and loading times varies depending on size. The bigger the game, the longer it takes to load. Some of the games takes around 1 minute to load. It adds up quickly for those wanting to switch between different games. I guess that the SSD type cartridges are a totally different thing compared to ROM carts of Neo Geo MVS, which explains the instant switching on the Neo Geo while other modern systems, including Exa Arcadia take a while to load.
Yes, the color flashing on game select is quite an awkward transition. There has to be a smoother transition such as black and then loading screen or fade out/in to loading screen.
As demonstrated from Arcade Heroes' Exa Arcadia walkthrough:
System Boot-up at 20:40
Game cartridge select at 23:00
Keep in mind that the video posted with the hardware was version 1.00, basically launch version before any updates on games and firmware were applied.
If anyone else have the games, I wonder how long it takes them to load before playing the selected game?

What an absolutely cringeworthy affair that was. "Investment investment investment". And investment. Either you're an operator (business) and this is actually an investment for you, in which case you won't give a **** that your plexi box has a high res printed picture on all sides. Or you're a person playing videogames and you need to GTFO with the "investment" talk.

Pretty sure he doesn't mean investment in the literal sense, just that if you've spent a **** on a game you want to protect it from damage.
The return on your investment if fun.

Arcade Heroes has released a comparison video featuring Iron Crypticle (Home) and Lightning Knights (Arcade). There is a great deal of differences in gameplay balance in addition to the UI.
I favor comparison videos like these to detect differences easily.
