Framemeister mini

Post by vasilas432 »

Hi,
I am thinking to buy a framemeister mini to replace my Sony crt. How many of you are happy with it for more than three years since it is out? Are you happy with the lag? Which games have mostly problems with it? Shmups?
Have you replaced your crts or you have a combination?

Hmm, that looks interesting and geeky. I'm looking to get a mini one day but the price is horrible.

I am very happy with it, had the XRGB 3 before.
There seems to be some measureable lag with the Framemeister, but I cannot feel it neither with Beat em ups nor with Shmups.

The picture is great and you get scanline porn as long as you set it to 720p.
With 1080p the scanlines don´t work well and you get a really crisp picture.

It´s easy to use and very comfortable, I use it with all my retro consoles and supergun without problems on a beamer and Bravia TV.

Will get one in the new year I think. Wouldn't mind trying this open source one out though.

The OSSC for 720p is the best because it has a quality of 4:4:4 instead of 4:2:2 of the FM. Additionally OSSC has zero lag in 720p which is great. The wifi in 480p looks superb while in FM is not so good

If i understand it correct it's not a scaler, and 720p only works on 240p sources using some trickery that makes the signal incompatible with most TV's. Don't get me wrong, it sounds like it has it uses, but it doesn't sound like a proper replacement for a framemeister.
I agree it doesn't sound like a proper replacement but if your monitor is compatible, mine is Dell and is compatible, it costs half the money, you don't waste time with the settings all the time and there is no lag except your LCD's lag. I will try it.
Many people bought Framemeister and they sold it because of lag and because scan lines don't work as they supposed to in 1080p.

All in all no converter is perfect at the moment. Maybe next framemeister or next OSSC will be ;)

How much is the OSSC? I've been thinking about the Framemeister for about a week, then this thread popped up :awe:

I was to buy a Framemeister myself but then I heard about OSSC in shmups forum. Here is the online shop for it.

You have done well! I have talked to people in shmups forum that know better than me about all technicals and specs of both converters and all of them recommended me OSSC.
I have also be warned that there are many people in the waiting list and they change their mind or get in there but they are not serious to buy, so there is a high possibility to have OSSC in next month!

It's a line doubler, plain and simple. One line goes in, two come out. In the case of 720p, three lines come out. This means that the 720p signal isn't always SMTPE standard 720p or even GTF, but simply a multiple of the 240p that comes in, which can vary significantly from console to console (and arcade PCBs especially). CRT chassis will eat most timings as long as they're within spec, if worst comes to worst you might have trouble centring the image. LCD monitors generally don't expect much outside the standard HDTV timings and might trip with a purely doubled or tripled arcade/console signal. I wouldn't call it trickery really. If anything, scalers are using trickery to force a non-standard source signal into a standard SMPTE timing, with lag, stuttering or tearing as a result.

Framemeister is just useless for arcade style games, too much lag.

Looking pretty and being a viable solution for playing arcade games are two entirely different things.

I think the lag is dictated by your TV more than the scaler, some are better than others obviously. For example my friends old Panasonic LED had a crazy amount of lagg even in Game-Mode, so much so it was hard to do an anti-air on a fighting game.. Personally I can't make the switch to playing 240P games on anything other than a CRT, the lagg would alway be there in some form regardless.

I went the IKEA hacked furniture route. HD & CRT all in the same unit :)

Nice TV and Video gaming at the same time. Notice your Japanese Megadrive - nice. I also have one reminds me to dig out about 50 Japanese games from storage for a re-run ;)
