Is it likely that an image program - such as Macrium or Ghost et all, could feasibly write an image of this in future?

I'm actually going to start releasing them in raw disk images. From what I hear alot of windows imaging programs can handle them and its also easier. Personally I recommend using "dd" in Linux.

Once the official release comes out the disk image wont change anymore and the updates will be released in packages. Which will be zip archives containing the changed files that you can just copy over on your multi.

RC2 Released. See 1st post for download links, changelog, screenshots.

From here on out I will only be using raw disk images, Once the official release comes out updates will be distributed in zip compressed "packages" and you can just copy over the changed files.

Under Linux I get the following when mounting. (RC2)
The disk contains an unclean file system (0, 0).
The file system wasn't safely closed on Windows. Fixing.
Failed to reset $LogFile: Operation not permitted
Failed to mount '/dev/loop0p1': Operation not permitted
The NTFS partition is in an unsafe state. Please resume and shutdown
Windows fully (no hibernation or fast restarting), or mount the volume
read-only with the 'ro' mount option.

Hmm, I havent tried to mount the partitions before. How did you create the loopback device? losetup?

That normally means the partition is "dirty".

try

Code: Select all

ntfsfix -d /dev/sdX

Linux disk utility GUI. But it's the same using terminal when trying to mount a partition or the whole disk.

try

Code: Select all

ntfsfix -d /dev/sdX
Cheers, I'll try that next time.

So how is the actual security implementation?
Any exploit used to get the disk to boot?
I was under the impression the disk was tied to 'itself' by way of some data in sector zero. Cloning a normal TTX2 disk never worked, right? (disk unique id differs from what's stored in the data.)

a TTX2 disk will boot just fine if cloned but the game it self wont pass the security check with a cloned hdd.
so you can clone a drive and replace the launcher.exe with anything you want to run.

Edit: This is only a guess but i think the dongle houses a range of HDD IDs that are allowed. Nico may be able to give more info about that

I believe original games boot in to Windows CE then mount an encryped disk image containing the game files. The encryption key for the disk image is stored on the USB dongle.

Thank you Niko! Going to have to find a spare drive or buy one and try this out. Much more pleasing to the eye.

V1.0 has now been released! See 1st post for details, upgrade instructions, and download links!

Here is a list of fixes, improvements, and new features.

Fixes:

Fixed non working JVS controls when using slower non SDD drives.
Fixed I/O Error(s) when starting games.
Fixed non working JVS controls after returning to menu from some games.

Improvements:

Rewrote the entire JVS "driver". Its seriously like 10x faster.
Multi starts up in 1/3rd of the time. ( From the time windows starts, not from power on. Approx 2.25 seconds faster )

New Features:

Autoboot Feature: Allows you to set a game for "autoboot" and after a specified period of inactivity the selected autoboot game will boot up. This is useful for users of CRT monitors to prevent burn in. Autoboot timer interval can be choosen from a "new" settings menu. Intervals are 1,3, or 5 minutes. Chosen autoboot game and timer interval are saved even after reboots. So set it once and forget it.
Monitor layout can be chosen from the new settings menu. Currently only two monitor layout options are available "LCD" or "CRT". LCD is the normal layout for LCD monitors. "CRT" is a slightly smaller layout to account for overscan.

I now have Crimzon Clover working on the Multi. If you already own Crimzon Clover through Steam, shoot me a PM and I will get you setup on the Multi. :)
