Which Astro is that?
So I’m hanging around in this local arcade. All of a sudden I notice some Astros different from the others, they are branded “Tecmo AstroCity” instead of “Sega Astro City”. Never heard of that before and Google doesn’t help… What’s the difference? The same difference between a ViawLaix L and a Wowlex F?

Re: Which Astro is that?
Grant, that is an original one indeed. It just has the Tecmo logo instead of the Sega logo. The tecmo astro are just, let's say, 10-15% of the total in the arcade (the one in Marina square, for Singapore locals). Will try to get a pic but it's gonna be a pain in the **** as my mobile is an old blackberry without camera and photos are not allowed in there. This is getting interesting...grantspain wrote:bet its one of the newer clone cabs with some adapted artwork, get a photo

It kinda looks like that. The Tecmo brand is at the top of the screen, just where the regular ones have the SEGA logo. All the parts look original. The interesting thing is that also the part with the Tecmo logo seems original and not repainted or something

Re: Which Astro is that?
Tecmo did a deal with Sega in 1994-1995.
They bought the Engine for Virtua Fighter 2, in which they devloped Dead or Alive on, they also bought license rights to have there own cabinet to distrubute it on (they used the Astro City) for Asia market.
In the UK, they used the infamous Deith woodies (same cabs as VF2/Virtua Striker), also in America, the Dead or Alive logo also had the Accliam logo as they where trying to break into arcade games (Remember that Batman game on STV?)
Jaleco did a similar thing with Super GT24 HR and Over Revs, and used Indy type Twin cabs.

Re: Which Astro is that?
Thank you very much indeed Andy. Just out of curiosity, are the tecmo astros somehow "rare"? I doubt, but If so I might try to get one of those. Also will try to get a picture this Friday.andygeezer wrote:Tecmo did a deal with Sega in 1994-1995.

Looks like a legit astro jewl in there, not a remake or a crappy conversion kit.

They are excellet quality woodies, I'd take one over an Electrocoin, as they come with Nanao monitors etc (make good Jamma cabs once converted), but yeah in the 90's Deith did a lot of UK Sega builds.
The Tecmo Astro isn't as common as Sega one, but apart from the Tecmo branding is 100% the same as Astro (I assume it came with the Model 2 wiring as well as Jamma).

I got a Tecmo Astro CP here actually. Didn't know they released an entire Tecmo cab though.

Re: Which Astro is that?
Today I visited a couple of arcades, it's been a while since last time (I'd say 3.5 months or even more). There is plenty of SFIV machines now, abt 7 to 10. Besides I've finally seen BlazBlue and it looks stunning, too bad the charachters look like bunch of freaks, if it had SF characters I'd be all over it. Anyhow I managed to take a pic of the Tecmo Astro CP (recently got a mobile with camera for free )
