Re: Kraut Buster
Double late to this thread, but has anyone tried this out on a multi slot??
I haven’t actually sat down and played this properly, but very much looking forward to it.
In the mean time, I tried it in the four slot line up just to make sure the four slot was working properly with legitimate carts, and the NeoSD Pro, and NG Dev custom cartridges.
Seems to work perfectly fine, BUT, once Kraut Buster is selected, the game select button becomes useless. You can’t advance to the next game in the line up...
Anyone?

Re: Kraut Buster
Yeah, it's not really designed to run in arcades. I'm impressed it works at all with other carts in there. The earlier releases didn't. I just use my MV1 for NG DEV.

Re: Kraut Buster
Yeah, that’s fair enough.
I’ve got a one slot if I want to play it in a cab I guess, and an OMVS I can use on the big screen.
Just wondered if there was something I was missing.
Had a good look through this thread and now I’m really looking forward to sitting down with this one.

Some original games do this as well, like King of Monsters. Very annoying.ChrisBEANS wrote: ↑May 5th, 2021, 12:26 pmSeems to work perfectly fine, BUT, once Kraut Buster is selected, the game select button becomes useless. You can’t advance to the next game in the line up...

Re: Kraut Buster
Bit of a necro bump, but I updated this over the weekend to version 1.2 and it now works quite happily in my 4 slot cab.
It's actually really quite fun too.

Re: Kraut Buster
Wait, there's an update beyond 1.02?
EDIT: nevermind, you mean 1.02.
It's from two years ago.
Although, now thinking about it, I'm not sure if I'm on it Can someone upload the update somewhere? It was apparently sent by email, but I never received any email.

Re: Kraut Buster
I’ll dig out the link. I found it online somewhere over the weekend and updated it. Seems the majority of carts were never updated.
It’s easy to check as the version is displayed as the game boots.
No specific mention of getting it to work with a multi in the update (does state ‘various bug fixes’ though), but previously it was very temperamental in the four slot and once it loaded the game select button ceased to function and KB stayed as the only game available.
Since the update it loads up quite happily in slot four, and cycles through through quite happily with both the select button and automatically if left on attract mode.
I put more time into it this weekend than I have before (not much to be fair) and I found myself quite enjoying it.
It’s missing something intangible, but it’s still a slick, controllable, fun title and the presentation is immaculate.

Re: Kraut Buster
I remembered I had a link for the previous update, so I just replaced the version number in the URL with the new one, and sure enough it worked
Here it is:

Re: Kraut Buster
****************************************
NGDEV micro SD Card update: Kraut Buster
****************************************
Update process:
Get a Micro SD card (the card must be FAT32 formatted/max size 32 GB):
1. Unpack the .zip archive (KBUPDATE_v1_xx.zip)
2. Copy the file "KBUPDATE.BIN" to the root directory of your Micro SD card (e.g. "E:\KBUPDATE.BIN").
3. Insert the Micro SD card in the game cartridge (progboard)
there is a white Micro SD card symbol on the PCB (JP3)
4. Insert the cartridge into the NEOGEO motherboard
5. Boot the cartridge
Due to heavy encryption and a slow CPU this takes a while. About 10-15 minutes.
After a successful update the file is deleted and the system resets to start the game.
The new software version number (v1.xx) can be seen in the "please wait" screen and you should hear the intro start.
You can leave the Micro SD card in if you want.
LED Status while updating:
Phase 1:
D3 (green) permanent on
D4 (blue) permanent on
Phase 2:
D2 (orange) blinking
D4 (blue) permanent on
On screen a message "SOFTWARE UPDATE" appears (or BIOS test grid screen).
In case of an error. We recommend to try at least 3 times (turn motherboard off and on again)
Error codes start with all 4 LEDs glowing then all are off and then an error code bit mask is displayed. Then all 4 are off and repeat.

Re: Kraut Buster
Interesting, I didn’t realise they were updated by an SD card.

Re: Kraut Buster
Took about ten minutes. Did it on my OMVS as I didn’t want to risk doing it on the multi.thegreathopper wrote: ↑April 19th, 2022, 10:31 pm Interesting, I didn’t realise they were updated by an SD card.
Obviously people panic about label damage on such a pricey cart, but if you’re careful it doesn’t leave any mark or crease whatsoever.
All good.
