Multi Game System MGS 003 Arcade Machine
I just have seen this new bartop repro of an Astro City and thought I should tell you.
Its called Multi Game System MGS 003.
Looks realy nice to me, although i´m no bartop fan, but for this I would find some place and use .
Here are some clips on Youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8Uxhxs57PE#t=485"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USGRFRxuUzg"
And no, I´m not selling these or getting payed for advertisment.

£500-600 for the cab without computer and around £800 with.. Though I doubt the computer they put inside is £300 pounds worth of PC...
Looking at ebay, bartops sell at around £150-£350 non shilled.. If the MGS 003 was sold at around £550 with PC... then he would be on a winner because it does look extremely good.

Does he have a website / forum to peddle his warez? I think I can find space for that.

Re: Multi Game System MGS 003 Arcade Machine
I read about this at retrocollect.com, his homepage is
http://multigamesystem.storenvy.com/products"
I also think this is overpriced, but it´s a nice idea.
I will do some 3D-CAD for my very own one. Will try to do one with 21" LCD and one with maybe 21" or 25" CRT.
Maybe I can post the 3D data and building plans when i´ve done it, maybe a whole how to do yourself.
Would someone here be interested in this?
Maybe I could design some screen rotation function to, because I mostly play tate, but sometimes I also like Metal Slug and Magical Drop.

If I was going to get a bartop machine, this would probably be my first choice. Very sexy. Definitely overpriced though.
I'd certainly be interesting in reading about it! Surely you don't mean a CRT in a bartop though...I will do some 3D-CAD for my very own one. Will try to do one with 21" LCD and one with maybe 21" or 25" CRT.

Re: Multi Game System MGS 003 Arcade Machine
A Bartop with CRT would be big, but should be possible.
At first I concentrate on the LCD one.
Has someone a recommendation for an 21" lcd to use?
Which would be the best options with good picture quality and fast reaction time/no input lag?

Just use an IPS display with the lowest lag you can find. Going for 4:3 panels will severely limit the choice in modern options anyway

Yes I see 21" and 4:3 isn´t an easy task.arcnl wrote:Just use an IPS display with the lowest lag you can find. Going for 4:3 panels will severely limit the choice in modern options anyway
I just found this EIZO S2133-BK, but they go for about 800€ (IPS-Panel, 6ms, 420 cd/qm, 1500:1, h178°/v178°)
Can someone tell me, is the Samsung SyncMaster 214T a good option (PVA-Panel, 8ms, 300 cd/m², 1000:1, h178°/v178°)?
They are much cheaper, but on amazon some people complained about reaction lag of the mouse cursor.
Also found some from NEC, but all with PVA-Panels.
NEC MultiSync LCD2190UXp (S-PVA-Panel, 8ms, 300cd/m2, 1000:1, h178°/v178°)
Nec MultiSync 2170NX (PVA-Panel, 8ms, 300cd/m2, 900:1, h178°/v178°)

Re: Multi Game System MGS 003 Arcade Machine
Finding an ips-panel was nearly impossible for me (when i used lcd in a cab. Never again )
The 2 PVAs i tried (one was the NEC) had too much lag. You could find a TN panel easily without noticable lag but when you go tate pic will look dark from one side but fine from the other. For a one player bartop i'd go with TN. Dirtcheap, easily available and no lag.

It's good to remember that a 4:3 TN is going to be much easier on the eyes than a 16:9 or 16:10, but it's still TN.
Emulation's nice when done well

What do you mean with easier on the eyes than a 16:9 or 16:10? Do you mean 16:9 or 16:10 TN-Panels?TheRedKnight wrote:It's good to remember that a 4:3 TN is going to be much easier on the eyes than a 16:9 or 16:10, but it's still TN.
Whats the diverence with them? I don´t understand what you want to say.

With TN, the viewing angle flaws are more prominent with wider panels. But it's also possible that on a 21" 4:3 the flaws are glaring on the upper and lower parts of the screen instead of the sides.Shadolf wrote:What do you mean with easier on the eyes than a 16:9 or 16:10? Re: Multi Game System MGS 003 Arcade Machine
The main problem with TN panels is the vertical viewing angle. If you have the panel in the normal landscape mode it's not such a big problem mostly because your head moves more horizontal than vertical. If you put the panel in portrain mode ("tate") that's when it'll become a big problem. This image illustrates it nicely:

Best looking Bartop I've even seen. I'd be interested in a flat pack kit for not $800...

LG doesn't make them anymore but maybe you can find one used: http://www.lg.com/uk/monitors/lg-L2000CP-lcd-monitor"
I've got one of those in my cab and got used to it. Doesn't look too bad with a piece of tined glas over it and emulated scanlines.

Wanted: SNK Candy 18 spares. Mainly looking for a marquee holder & the "video games" sign.

Re: Multi Game System MGS 003 Arcade Machine
So the guy who made this is now running a Kickstarter to fund a more easily-reproduceable fibreglass shell to sell to more people. He's improved on the original design and basically made it a more faithful Astro replica, and also made an MVS-U4 inspired design that's really cool.
He's already got $5.5k of the $9k he's asking for after 2 days so it's as good as funded.

Much as I like them and want to support him, the end selling price is mooted to be $800 - $1500...
At the very least he wants to get some scan-lines going on.
