Pop'n Music info please
I really fancy playing some of the newer versions of this.
Is an import PS2 about my only option? or are they easy/cheap PCBs to source and wire up?

Hacked AC-version is probably the best route to go. PS2versions is only available up to carnival. If you're not too picky about speedmod-settings there is a popn8 kit out on YJ right now.
DJ Dao has a cheap ASC at 249 USD
(I sell a kit in my store arkadbutiken.se if you're looking for buttons)

Not sure what you mean. When you say hacked ac you mean arcade version? And why hacked?

If you plan on using legit hardware, the latest version that does not require an e-amusement account is 19 (tune street).
The legit route is not going to be easy or cheap, there are a lot of components and wiring and it's just easier to have a cab, or like most people run a hacked version.

Re: Pop'n Music info please
Still can't find what you guys mean by hacked version. Are these modded PCBs or running on pc?
Doesn't look like they work in mame and can't see any emulators. Seems most people are running them via ps2 one way or another.
I'll happily use a proper PCB. Its only 9 buttons so can't be that hard to wire up.
An original cab doesn't look like it would fit through my door.

I'm interested in knowing more about this too. I'm thinking the VT4 cab would be good for playing this with having the large CP.

Re: Pop'n Music info please
All of the later Konami arcade games run on PC based hardware, usually some form of embedded windows (XP in the case of pop'n).
As far as the wiring, it's more complex than just hooking up 9 buttons.
There's also lighting (buttons and cab parts), the power transformer, the fuse / power box,
serial wire and power for the 10-key pad, wiring to the e-amusement reader(s), dongles, etc.
I have all the bits and pieces wired up outside of a cab but it basically eats up an entire desk.
Hacks... well that you should research on your own.

Re: Pop'n Music info please
I've been hunting for info for the past few days.
I've ended up with Lunatic Rave2 beta3 on the pc. You can add a popn skin.
Not sure how well it would work in a cab without having to use a mouse

There was a complete setup for popn 8 on YJ. But I think that runs on PS2 hardware
