Re: AO Candy cab owners thread - 270+ cabs registered & coun
With a list such as this, we can make a pretty reasonable approximation of how many candy cabs are in the UK.
We know how many cabs are registered, but we don't know what percent of people have bothered registering. Using a test sample of cab imports that we've tracked (preferably one with a fairly high figure), we can estimate an average. It won't be exact, but it won't be far off.
Of course there are a few things to factor in. 'Rare' cab owners are more likely to be an active member here and will cause an overestimation, same goes for owners of multiple cabs. Also, private import figures are unknown, which causes underestimation. Finally, a lot of group order cabs have been spread around Europe, and vice-versa.
As an example of wtf I'm talking about, let's say 50 E2s have been group imported to the UK. There are 11 UK ones registered here. So there would so far be a 50:11 ratio of ownership:registration. In this example, 22% of known cabs have been registered. That figure can be appropriately amended by the above factors, and then applied to the overall UK figure. The more test cases we can track, the better, and some are more reliable than others. I reckon group imports probably provide a good portion of E2s, but maybe not Astros. Some cabs would require less guesswork than other, so it's wise to use data from them.
So, to anyone who's been following for the last decade or so, how many E2s have been group imported to the UK?

Following up on group buys could well be a very useful route to take to get a broader idea of numbers overall.
Ronnie is currently importing containers
Tony Obviously from KC days
Jeff (Digital system designs) - didn't he import a ton of AC and Blasts from HK
Grantspain for IC09
vib_ribbon & Mr Meg (I believe imported E2's & AW at the end of 2007 possibly other group buys too)
Anyone remember who did group buys? What they imported and When? Maybe it was you who did all the hard work

Re: AO Candy cab owners thread - 270+ cabs registered & coun
Grantspain imported a **** of E2s and I think AWSDs for IC09.
But yeah, basically to get a UK estimation we don't have to have all cab models tracked, just a reasonably close figure for a few models.
I get the feeling that Astros have come in from all over the place over the years so it's difficult to impossible to try tracking them. But cabs like E2s, AWSDs... I may be wrong, but I reckon that a figure collated from known sources would cover most that ever entered the UK. I know I've already tried to explain the above but I don't think I did a great job at 3am.

What you were getting at with the E2's made perfect sense to me Joe and you explained it perfectly fine, I think it was my response that came across as not really getting your point
Maybe Grantspain still remembers numbers of what he imported

No it wasn't you, it was me. I had re-read my post and I wasn't even sure what I was getting at myself.
Yeah, might be worth asking about. In the meantime, the bigger the owners list gets the better.

A bunch of them weren't E3s. If I remember correctly there were only about 8-10 genuine ones that were delivered by the supplier, the rest were... weird.

Re: AO Candy cab owners thread - 270+ cabs registered & coun
With the Toshiba monitor, yes. With the original monitor I wasn't keen - it wasn't bad by any means but I've been spoiled by top notch monitors, so it was worth me spending out the crazy amount extra to get the Tosh.
Can't say I'm too enamoured with the livery but it's inoffensive enough, and other than a quick once over with some polish it's required zero refurbishment work - possibly the best reason for getting one is they're one of the last CRT cabs so they don't have as many miles on them as others.
