Canadian in London -- gamer things to check out?

Post by opt2not »

My wife and I are heading to London soon, for the first time, and will have some time to look around the city after all our sightseeing.
I was hoping to get some info from you fine folks as to what gamer friendly things to check out in the city. I'm looking for recommendations for Arcades or Barcades (if you guys have any there) to visit, or perhaps markets where I can find retro games etc, or any sites or places gamers would be interested in general.

I appreciate the info! Thanks!

Also, I'm hoping to come home with a good SCART switcher that can handle at least 4 inputs and can output to 2 displays, like a Shinybow or Keene Commander. Are there places that sell these there, or are they hard to come by?

For the latter you're probably best getting one prearranged and sent to your hotel, unlikely to find retail.

The Heart if Gaming.

It's a short trip from the city on London's truly wonderful underground trains.

I'm actually hoping to pop up their next weekend or so (but then I'm always hoping to pop up there next weekend or so).

Thanks gents!

I ended up going to HOG, near North Acton tube station (I love the subway system here, but during rush hours it's madness).
Unfortunately we got there late, on a Tuesday, and they were close to closing. But I did get to play a few rounds of ST with a few guys there. I wish I had more time to spend, but we had our days packed with sight seeing and only had a small window to go check it out.
They have a ton of machines, including a couple Vewlix's that apparently we're donate to them by Capcom. This place is really legit, and I love that they have multiple rooms for not only arcade cabs, but lounge areas for console games.

Today we're off to Rome.

London is a incredible city. It really jives with my style of living, except for the expensive part. ;)

Although I can tell people didn't respond to Americans/Canadians too well, (I caught a few looks, glares and attitude changes when they heard me speak) there were lots of friendly, talkative people who made us feel welcome and gave me some great tips on things to check out here. Curry on Brick Lane was really delicious! The pubs we went to were fun and I love real English-sized pints.

I hope to come back here again one day.

Lol, yeah he gave me a good beating. :D
Though my ST skills are really rusty. I kept catching myself doing focus cancels and double-tap dashes. Damn SF4 has ruined me.

Thanks gents! I actually got there pretty late on a weekday so it wasn't busy at all. But it was cool to check it out anyways.

While we were in Paris, I was able to check out Arcade Street, and that place was also pretty awesome. Again, I went during a non-peak time but I did get to play 4 very friendly French guys at SSF4:AE. They really didn't have any answer for beastly Canadian Blanka's. ;)

There were mostly fighters on the first floor, with a Bishi Bash, and a Darius EX..but downstairs had a bunch of cave shmups and beat-em-ups.
Really excellent arcade, I wish I had more time to spend there.
