What games shoulda / woulda be in the arcade?

Post by virtvic »

This is going to be a topic for a future Ten Pence Arcade Podcast...

What games from classic computers and consoles (or even more modern games) should have been or should be in an arcade cab?

I, personally would love to see a version of Geometry Wars done on a colour vector monitor. How utterly cool and mind blowing would that be? The colour vector monitor would probably burst into flames after about 5 minutes, but I can dream

We would love to hear your ideas on this subject - they will be talked about on the podcast.

Alex aka Chuckie Egg (my co host) obviously wants Chuckie Egg to be in the arcade, which is a no brainer really! - it'd be awesome!

Uridium
Not sure exactly what it might have looked like, but it would have retained the C64 esthetics and was still all bas-relief. With Gouraud shading. And Phong lighting.
While I have a deep affection for Uridium 2, this isn't what an arcade version of the original would have looked like.
Cybermorph, while lacking in gameplay, officially has the best Gouraud shading ever.

Gameplay could even be improved by a fancy arcade controller and if it was in a closed cabin, there could be some lights and stuff to make it even more deadly to epileptics! It would also eat quarters like no other arcade game before it, supposing you need a coin for every try.

I always thought Compile should've made an Aleste game for the arcades.

Oh yeah. Also:

Zero Divide - The Final Conflict / Zero Divide 2 - The Secret Wish (SAT / PS1), A mix of these two games that take the best parts from each one. Basically the core of the Saturn version with the art direction from the Playstation version.

TMNT Mutant Warriors / TMNT Tournament Fighters (SFC), this is already 99% ready for the arcades. One of the best 2D fighting games ever.

Fighters Megamix (SAT), would need a lot of work and polish, including removing a lot of excess content like those Sonic and Kids characters.

Tobal No 1 / Tobal 2 (PS1), needs an analog stick and the jump and crouch buttons need to go... might not work out. Maybe have a button on top of the stick like in Ninja Gaiden?

I knew you had good taste  :whoopsie:

Gawd, I used to absolutely love Tournament Fighters. Does it still hold up today?

I was really disappointed that Mortal Kombat 9 didn't see an arcade release

Seriously though, Gunstar Heroes, Streets of Rage 2 and maybe Gynoug would be the games I'd play first if I ever got round to building a JAMMA MD.

Völgarr The Viking, of course. It's basically Rastan, only much better.

They were making a Spriggan, it was canned before release.

I forgot about TMNT TF ! I have it on my shelf so I'll have to pop it in the Jammadrive2 in my cab and give it a blast to find out! It'll no doubt be even better with a nicer feeling arcade stick compared to the slightly dead feeling of the megadrive arcade stick.

I also agree with the streets of rage series should have been arcade games! They have the proper feeling of being that type of game.

Now, the SNES/SFC version and the MD/GEN version of Tournament Fighters are completely different games. I wouldn't even want crunchybaby to suffer through the Sega version. :awe:

The SNES/SFC version is so damn good that everyone who is into fighting games should mod a SNES to play it on their cab. Seriously. The Super Famicom version (Mutant Warriors) is the superior version, btw.

Thankfully I've never played the MD version. The SNES one was bodacious though 8-)

N+ or Meatboy. :awe:

A Megaman [plattformer] would be so cool too.
Don't think megaman X, think megaman 2 with better grafics and a lot more enemies.
Randy and Candy.
currently lazy. must not buy games!
