Went with Garegga, i remember it being one of the first Shmups i really got into ( the colour scheme and music just do it for me ) yeah the rank system does alter the gameplay but thats just part and parcel of the game. never got into Batrider although i do think it's kinda cool, and bakraid was a big dissapointment for me, i was expecting Battle Garegga 2.

Garegga's gonna be one of the last pcb's that leaves my hands----and the saturn ports **** ace aswell

To me, Garegga is the best out of the three. It hooks you in the first go. The others, as cool as they are, you kinda have to get used to.

I don't even want a Bakraid board, but the other two are superb. Garegga wins because of music, no teams and the lovely dirtiness.

So I guess I'm the first voting for Bakraid. Never managed to get into Garegga or Batraider... but maybe some day.

Really like how Bakraid can be enjoyable playing in a very straightforward way for pure survival. And it doesn't get too demanding too quickly when you gradually start to participate in its scoring system.

Garegga for me , i owned the other 2 and 1cced them both in normal mode but i just couldnt see myself putting alot time into them as they didnt seem very deep gameplay wise (you know just abit of fun for a quick blast) so sold them both off .. garrega though is a whole other beast ,i really want to sink some time into that game and learn how to control the rank properly. also the music and industrial look is really nice

Batrider I've only dabbled with years ago, enough to get a dirty normal course clear in mame. Yet to get the pcb, some day...

Bakraid I also dirty cleared normal in mame a while back. Recently I had the opportunity to borrow the PCB and I enjoyed going for the advanced course clear. Bakraid is one of those games that doesn't feel like a chore, it's just fun! Stagse 6, 7, and 8 are all incredible and the final boss is a great battle. Sadly, I am terrible at timer-based chaining, so I wasn't able to delve deep into the score system, but for survival play it is the best of the three.

Garegga I have spent the most time with, so naturally it is my choice. I've played it seriously for years and am still shy of a letter grade or 1CC (so close to both!) The music and atmosphere are just THE BEST.
Stage design and bosses are superb. Garegga has that epic journey feel that is sorely lacking in many verts. Stage 7 when King Crimson bursts out of the carrier and then BlackheartMK2 returns to defend it... unmatched quality stuff right there.

I already voted some days ago, Garegga for me.

Just wanted to add, that the "New Version" of Garegga is just a major ****. Not talking about the removed secrets, but you don't have control about the formation of your Options - Every ship got a fixed formation, ... which is just a fubar for scoring.



Survival is still ok and very funny with those red balls, though. And I can see why they changed the bullets, ... but I wonder why they removed formation-control: To make it useable on 2 buttons cabs, or to make it more accessable to the more simple minded non-japanese folks.

I tried Batrider in MAME, and it is definitely on my list: Love the sprites and background, but the teams .. hm .. kinda wierd to get a new ship each death. Feels very casual to me.

Bakraid graphics just looks a bit too simple for a game that came after Garegga. It looks like the creative and arts director had a Brain Slug and nobdy cared. And before playing something loveless, I rather not play.

Definitely Garegga, although it's the only one I don't have on PCB - own it on the Saturn though.

Is there anyone who owns the Saturn Version & the PCB, who could live with just the Saturn version?

Several guys - iirc. They said the Sountrack is better, and RedBullets is nice too.

Owning the saturn version has stopped me buying the PCB over the years as people who own both say they are pretty much identical , probably the jewel in my console game crown i rekon

I owned both the saturn version and the pcb... After I got the pcb I promptly sold the saturn one to a friend and I've never looked back!

I don't miss the extra options or soundtrack, the original soundtrack is better in my opinion anyway.

Garegga and APB are both pretty awesome in my opinion, Garegga is just far more 'serious'... Depends what your after.
