The Ultimate Candy Cab'
Hi all, I bought my first cab around two months ago - a sega naomi. Ive always wanted an upright wooden cab, (cause thats what i grew up with here in England) to play a jamma set up with a SF2 game - SF2WW, SF2CE, SSF2T, any SF2 game really, but I saw my mates chopped Naomis about 4 months ago and fell in love with them. There was something about that low, seated style cab that was very pleasing to the eye..they just looked.... better. I chopped my naomi straight away and have rebuilt/resprayed it and its neally finished as a SFZ3U cab, I think its quite a decent effort for my first cab, but I shall let you guys be the judge of that when its finished soon. I only ever wanted one cab, but Im aleady think about another - is that normal? Ive also got a bad feeling it wont stop at two!? The girlfriend will definatelty not appreciate 2 cabs... and 3? Not even worth thinking about...
Anyway, the main point in this thread - Im learning more and more about 'candy cabs' as the days go by, and my next cab would potentially be a jamma setup to run a SF2 game as I originally intended, but not as I woody anymore... Ive fallen in love with the candys!! It wont happen soon, but to be fair it eventually will happen, so Im fishing for info in my new found hobby. I would like to run SF on an old candy, to stick with the age of the game - maybe an Aero City, Astro City or one of those Capcom Q25 machines. What are your thoughts on which cab to choose? Also, sticking with the theme of the thread - Which is your own personal favourite - your ultimate Candy, whether it be modern or vintage!

If you can find and afford a minty EGRET II, then that's my top choice for 15kHz gaming. If you however want to play high res games as well, then I'd say New Net City. TAITO cabs' spares are sparse though, be advised.

Like everything it's all personal taste, Emph and Kern like their E2's, Ralph's likes his Aeros, some prefer NNC, Blast, Astro etc etc, BTW all of those are lurvly cabs. Best thing to do is check out the list of cabs and the pics on the wiki and also the pics in the members cabs thread and see what tickles your fancy.

Yeah, thats the problem - I like the look of them all really, obviously the older ones look more sharp, and blocky.. kind of like an '80s car! Then they evolve into more rounded, modern style. Ok then, what would be the correct aged cab to use with a SF2 game?

Re: The Ultimate Candy Cab'
How about a Capcom "Status" ?- from the makers of Street Fighter.
Who needs 6 buttons when you play chun li.
The Status 18 looks a lot better thou. There was a thread somewhere, where it was refurbished. Good stuff. Cant think of a better one for SF2.

I'd choose that one too as the one and only "ultimate".

Re: The Ultimate Candy Cab'
Got to be a Blast for me, I love my Astro but i'd wanted a Blast for years before i got one earlier this year. I just love the look/design of the big beast!!
Seems like one of the easiest candies to get hold of in the UK now since Digitalsystemdesigns started bringing them in

Re: The Ultimate Candy Cab'
My personal preferace is a NAC, classic Japanese chav cab. I love the all-in-1 smooth look of the control panel joined onto the body in one piece. Given the choice I wouldn't say no a nice BlastCity, best of both worlds with the med Rez screen and sexy speaker placement, beast of a machine. I do love the speaker design/look of the Egret 2's but I'm not a fan of the disjointed bolted on control panel.
