It's all about the soundtrack man. Namiki at his finest.cvaniafan31 wrote:skykid wrote:Zed Blade

Yeah, I agree the soundtrack is nice. But I like the game also as a pure "16bit-style" shmup: ugly graphics, but responsive, nervous and "speedy"

Re: Top 6 NeoGeo MVS games
OMG, thx guys ! I got the game on my XXXin1 and tried it a couple weeks ago, my first reaction was : "omg, what a fugly game" so I quit the game thinking "another crappy game :/". After seeing your messages I pushed the volume on my cabinet and gave it another try. It rocks ! The music is awesome and even though it looks like an old genesis game it is a great game !cvaniafan31 wrote:skykid wrote:Zed Blade

Re: Top 6 NeoGeo MVS games
Flip Shot (rubbish 1P), Metal Slug (just don't enjoy them enough), Baseball Stars 2 (rubbish 1P) are dismissed. Pop N Bounce also tried and dismissed (horrendous music and not much fun to play).cools wrote:From my original list, I'm now thinking for definite:
Magical Drop 3
Waku Waku 7
Blazing Star
Metal Slug
And as options:
Twinkle Star Sprites, Last Blade, Garou, Neo Turf Masters, Flip Shot, Baseball Stars 2...
My current six slot looks like this:
Twinkle Star Sprites
Blazing Star
Shock Troopers
KOF 2000
Street Hoop
Puzzle Bobble
Yes, Magical Drop III is in storage rather than playable.
Keepers - good in 1P, also good 2P, nice music and graphics:
Twinkle Star Sprites
Blazing Star
Puzzle Bobble
Maybes -
Shock Troopers (I like it, but I'm undecided yet)
Street Hoop (Really only a 2P game)
Magical Drop III (It's brilliant but it's exhausting to play. Perhaps when I get it in a sitdown cab again I'll change my mind)
Waku Waku 7 (great but the really special moves are next to impossible to memorise and pull off)
KOF 2000 (gorgeous graphics, amazing audio, and great casual play. My favourite KOF it seems. Possibly too many characters though)
Still to play -
Last Blade/Last Blade 2 (I have high hopes one of these can beat out KOF2K/WW7)
Neo Drift Out
In summary (current top 6)-
Twinkle Star Sprites
Blazing Star
Puzzle Bobble
Shock Troopers
Magical Drop III
KOF 2000

Last Resort doesn't feel as fluid as Blazing Star.

Except 45 Plus, which I still play (and FFS every now and then), I´m totally burned out on the MVS stuff, must have played them too much back in the day.

Yeah, 2000 is my favourite out of all the ones I've played - 94-98, 2000. The music is really good, graphics are nice, and it plays nicely.

Re: Top 6 NeoGeo MVS games
Though I sold my collection, I would have to say:
Garou: MOTW
Metal Slug 3
Last Blade 2
Bust-A-Move Again
Blazing Star
NEO Turf Masters
That's what I had in my dedicated 6-slot cab before selling them off.

Re: Top 6 NeoGeo MVS games
(Un)surprising new entry.
Garou is brilliant. Maybe not *quite* as flashy as everyone makes out (it's no Capcom game) but the core fighting and animation is wonderfully smooth. The lack of line scrolling is the only real criticism I can throw at it (and maybe boring fonts), which is a really good thing.
Even though I won't have a six slot for too much longer I still need to find my definitive top 6, which currently contains:
Twinkle Star Sprites
Garou: Mark Of The Wolves
Blazing Star
Puzzle Bobble
Shock Troopers
Magical Drop III
Even though they're in the list, Shock Troopers and MD3 don't feel right... ST is great and certainly my favourite run and gun on the Neo but doesn't feel like it's something particularly special - I've not played the sequel outside of MAME though. MD3 despite being absolutely brilliant I think I've got as good as I'm ever going to get at it without human competition - PB is a superior 1P game. I have the same thing with Puyo Puyo games, dull as hell 1P but 2P is supremely fun.
Still to try: Ghostlop (I know... ), Super Dodgeball, Neo Driftout. Pochi and Nyaa looks quite interesting too.
