DISPL IS THE POWER! Crucify the XRGB!
My first post here in a long time, I've been too busy messing with my X68000. Anyway I discovered the true lost ark. This thing truly blew my mind, it stuns me every time. Where has this thing been all my life?

Or... you could just put your board in a cab.
Seriously though - nice bit of kit for Supergun owners! Surprised no one has raved about these before.

Never seen the point in such devices to be honest. Seems using an appropriate monitor is too simple for some people.

Re: DISPL IS THE POWER! Crucify the XRGB!
But for supergun people this is great, sometimes the appropriate monitor isn't available and you gotta make due with the one you watch tv/play consoles/connect your pc too etc.. Some people don't have the space or budget to store cabs or different monitors for their games. Unlike me who has barely the space, AND barely the budget, and am looking for my second NAC! don't tell the wife; it's one of those "...i know baby...yeah, but I...well honey, it's paid for and it's here so lets make the best of it?" kinda situations. She'll get mad, but hey at least I'd have my second NAC! (her being mad at me i can deal with...not having both a horizontal and vertical NAC is what cannot stand!)Hewitson wrote:Never seen the point in such devices to be honest. I have a cab myself and is what I usually play on. But sooner or later it will have to go. I like being prepared for any possibility.

Re: DISPL IS THE POWER! Crucify the XRGB!
Genuine questions from someone not well versed on the XRGB:
My Plasma has an upscaler built in and I am presuming most modern LCD's do too.
Why do you need one of these units? Do they have benefits that TV upscalers do not?

Re: DISPL IS THE POWER! Crucify the XRGB!
I own a supergun and have had nothing but headaches over the years in getting my games to run satisfactorily on various TVs.
Well, the problems started, when I upgraded to my first LCD TV, as all but one of my CRTs ran ok.
I ended up having to take my kit to the TV shops to test if they could handle the RBG input on SCART, before I bought a new Telly. Even then, the panels would be fussy and the picture was not perfect and of course missing the lovely scanlines.
My most recent TV is a LED jobby from Samsung, which seems to run SCART stuff fine, but again, it's not perfect.
I do own an upscan converter, which wasn't as expensive as the XRGB, but it doesn't seem to work any more.
I guess then, as this DISPL unit is the holy grail for the likes of the OP and people like myself, I will have to search for one of these too. The real shame and problem, is going to be sourcing these things, as they seem very rare.

I guess no modern TV will ever be perfect but neither will an upscaler that costs a few hundred.bloodhokuto wrote: My most recent TV is a LED jobby from Samsung, which seems to run SCART stuff fine, but again, it's not perfect.
The TV's RGB / SCART inputs will go through an internal upscaler and I guess the trick is getting one that has a good one in it.
My 7 year old plasma seems to have a pretty decent one with very little lag but I would be curious to run an A/B with an XRGB or similar to compare.

Re: DISPL IS THE POWER! Crucify the XRGB!
The separate upscaler that I used to use, definitely displayed a better picture.
I think that both this and the XRGB and other such units do a better job than the TVs' internal efforts in displaying the raw RGB. The only thing is that these units weren't designed for our usage directly in mind, whereas the DISPL appears to be exactly for 'us'.
A few years back I had major problems getting a decent telly that handled RGB scart from a supergun / my RGB fixed Neo Geo, and whilst I did find a solution in the upscan convertor (at the time), the funny thing was that I bought a cheapy cheap small LCD panel, just for a laugh and lo and behold it displayed everything that I threw at it, whereas my Bravia shat it's pants trying to run progear and Sharp peed itself trying to display Ketsui!

Re: DISPL IS THE POWER! Crucify the XRGB!
I remember when I was researching what plasma to buy, I read stories of people buying £1500+ upscalers which I thought was insane at the time.
The main reason I got mine was due to reviews saying how well it handled standard def TV. Pretty vital for a gamer with many old consoles
I've got rid of all the consoles apart from a PS2 but that still runs fine via RGB. I think if I sold my cabs, I would probably get a nice Sony CRT TV and put it on its side tbh
