Recommend me some JAMMA games!

Post by Spectre »

So have decided to start picking up some plain old JAMMA games after mainly sticking to cart systems for years. So far I have snagged:-

Dynablaster
Tetris (atari)
Mille Miglia 2

I've also got my eye out for Robocop. Now recommend me some more dammit, value under £100 (cheaper the better), horizontal games only and no CPS1 stuff as I already know about them all. :awe:

FWIW, the original Great 1000 Miles Rally plays much better than the 2nd one. You should be able to get it pretty cheap. Give it a go. :awe:

Also Splatterhouse is brilliant. I sold mine because I played it to death.

Good Jamma games under £100, horizontal, not made by Capcom. Hmmm

Interested in all genres, although I'm not that big on puzzle games. MVS games on pcb do not count!

Most interesting suggestion so far is Ninja-Kid II / Rad Action, as I'd never heard of it and it looks awesome and hilarious 8-)

It's amazing, really. The music is fantastic and the characters and graphics are amazing. Learning to control the Ninja-Kid is a bit hard due to a rather complex use of button 2 in combination with lever controls. You also use the lever UP to cycle your weapon inventory. This is a bit hard to control also if you have a hair trigger joystick, so I imagine that the JLF is better for this game than an LS-32 for example.

1. Jumping - Ninja-Kid jumps for as long as you hold the jump button. But not only does button 2 work for jumping, no you can also:
2. Climbing walls - Jump towards a wall until Ninja-Kid grabs hold of it. Keep pulling the stick towards the wall, then start repeatedly pushing button 2 to climb the wall. If the wall is tall and have an opposing wall, you might wanna learn how to:
3. Bouncing off walls - If you jump towards a wall, you can bounce of it, ninja style and scale vertical tunnels several screens high with ease. Just jump towards the wall, then mid-air pull the joystick the other way while pressing button 2 again (keep it pressed) until you jump off the opposing wall and repeat until you reach the top.
4. Swimming - Yes, there are levels where you're required to swim around with only a small sword to protect you from giant shrimp, small red fish and avoid huge fish that cannot even be killed

The jump button can also be used to do a "perfect landing" if Ninja-Kid falls from a great height and loses consciousness (you just press button 2 right before he hits the ground). If you fail, he will pass out for 2 seconds (you can speed this up by repeatedly pushing button 2). You can also go into a ninja-ball and roll away towards death or an unsuspecting enemy that will be momentarily stunned. Or it might just kill you.

The game gives you plenty of extends if you play it for score (somewhat) but be careful not to overstock, or the extends will stop coming. Suicide is sometimes needed. If time runs out, a wheel of fire will turn up and scroll across the screen towards you, increasing in speed with every re-appearance. It always appears when the level time hits "30" or if you just stand around too long IIRC. One of my favourite games no doubt.

It's actually a good game. It's Psikyo and has different types of magic attacks and boosts. Gameplay isn't that great and I don't like having to face mainly bosses all the time but it's still a nice game methinks.

I used to own Sol Divide and while the presentation is pretty cool (the video sequences), I pretty much hated the gameplay.
