Sorry I got the digits mixed up :oops: I actually have exactly the same dongle as idc i.e. my setup is:

Code: Select all

DISC  : SC31001-NA-DVD0-B
DONGLE: SC31002-NA-A
edit: can't spell
Ah ok then it makes sense. Rom1 is from the Dongle, Rom2 is from the DVD. Some games are able to dictate their version info based on the DVD. Like Tekken 5 with normal dongle could be rev A or rev B but with the 5.1 DVD it becomes rev C, in the service menu, regardless of the revision on the dongle.

NA - Normal Game / Non Server Game
ST - Terminal Software
TS - Server Software
Based on SEGA naming maybe this would be an option:

NA - Normal Arcade
ST - Satellite Terminal
TS - Terminal Server

I was messing around with a Mr Driller for SYSTEM12 tonight.

The version shown in the test setup is DRI3/VER.A2

There is a warning about "suitable for all ages" and the all depths are measured in feet.

Providing that NAMCO did not change regions between SYS12 and SYS246 I would say this is one more example that region 3 is USA.

Sorry for the bump from the crypt, but I've been spending a lot of time working on this recently:

1- Japan (Default) - Verified
2- Export - Verified
3- USA - Verified
4- Asia - Verified

I need to check the versions i have on hand of t4, sc2, and t5 to verify, but this is what's in my notes.

Presumed from catalogued dongles:
- If the game was a worldwide release, but only had one dongle version or media version, a 1 is used.
- If the game was released in Asia, but in JP language (seems rare), but didn't warrant a r4 release, then they appear marked 1.

Now one issue that has been a problem is official reprogramming. sadly, not all games show the exact dongle version used, and others change depending on the combined disc+dongle versions used (i.e. Tekken 5/5.1).

Here's an example of a few duplicates in my collection that all happen to have the same r2 coding, although one clearly still has the r1 sticker as printed, and another was scratched out. This is an example of official reprogramming, as the game serial numbers MATCH their dongle serial numbers (bootleg dongles, unless someone gets sneaky, will not have matching serials, but a label printer could probably be used to great effect):

If we could get interest, I'd be interested in setting up a dongle/media registry for the 2X6, partially as a method to crack down on blatant piracy, as well as a way to get more information on game versions and regions released.

:thumbup: :awe: That would indeed be ace. Maybe put it on the wiki. I'll contribute with what little I have.

yay!
Resolution over the region question!!!
R1=JP
R2=EXPORT
R3=USA
R4=ASIA

(i.e. you guys were right all along)
Now, how we come to this conclusion:

Game: Tekken 4
Disc: TEF1 DVD0

Dongle: TEF1, Ver.D
Results:
1) JVS test
2) "This game is for use exclusively in JAPAN..." warning screen
3) "Tekken4 will begin momentarily..." loading screen
4) Attract video w/Japanese subtitles
5) Title screen (Jin Kazama in background)
6) Default blood color is RED in setup.
Clearly R1 is the Japanese region as expected.

Dongle: TEF2, Ver.D
Results:
1) JVS test
2) "Tekken4 will begin momentarily..." loading screen
3) Attract video w/English subtitles
4) Title screen (black background)
5) Default blood color is GREEN in setup.
This definitely sounds like export criteria for R2, where in many European countries blood can't be shown (weird).

Dongle: TEF3, Ver.D
Results:
1) JVS test
2) "Tekken4 will begin momentarily..." loading screen
3) "Parental Advisory Warning...Life-Like Violence-Mild..." warning screen
4) Attract video w/English subtitles
5) Title screen (Jin Kazama background)
6) Default blood color is RED in setup.
Well this settles it. R3 is CLEARLY USA (Who else would put a parental advisory on a game where no one will see it, yet default blood to red?).

Glad I could finally test this as for years I've been convinced that R3 was export, NOT R2...
Just had to finally complete a matching version set of one game with dongles from all three regions!
Region 4 doesn't need to be tested as it's only been seen on the "Asia" versions of Taiko Drum Master games.
