Someone finally did it... single chip naomi dual bios
I stumbled across this auction on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Sega-NAOMI-1-or-2-D ... 0327258126"
I thought due to the Naomi's hardware limitations, 32mbit eproms could not be read. Anyone have any idea how this was pulled off? I'm temped to buy it to dump and tinker...

Well I'd guess the two BIOS images are joined "end to end", and the switch selects upper or lower region.
I've ordered one, so I guess we'll find out soon enough, although I'll have to wait for it to arrive here in the UK. As you're in the US it might get to you sooner.

AFAIK each device has a device ID. I think naomi checks for device ID so that thing is confusing to me... Maybe the guy did not test his bioses on real hardware?

Re: Someone finally did it... single chip naomi dual bios
of course, this bios works!
i know this guy, he is a engineer from austria (known on shmups as "hd") and he already released a mod bios for the stv, and this works very well!

There is no way the Naomi will boot up from a 322 eprom..
Has anyone verified this works?? Unless the guy can change the deviceid of a 322 to mimic a 160 then you'll just get a blank screen.

He's over at shmups, I'm sure he'd post pics of it running if someone asked (I don't have access from here)

Actually I've never tried doing it with bank switching, it might work in theory.. well obivously it does.andygeezer wrote:There is no way the Naomi will boot up from a 322 eprom..

Most people have just tried doubling up the image and using 322 as a replacement which doesn't work.

Isn't version H of the Naomi 1 BIOS only for a few specific games?
Can't remember what version is in the Mushis.

Re: Someone finally did it... single chip naomi dual bios
I think the newest releases require a bios which doesn't work with older games
Re: Someone finally did it... single chip naomi dual bios
Has anyone here or on shmups/Sega-naomi/etc verified that it doesn't work?

Re: Someone finally did it... single chip naomi dual bios
the h is the latest japan naomi 1 bios, is required for the newer games like dynamite deka ex and shooting love 2007 and works with all older games which accept a japan bios.
as i told a few posts earlier, this hack WORKS!

I ordered one myself yesterday, curious if it works but I think it will.
I got my h bios from the same guy earlier and can also confirm that all my older Japanese and EXP games work on h.

Well I purchased one, but later had my PayPal payment refunded, along with a message from the seller that "the chips are broken".

Well, this is interesting: http://www.jammaboards.com/store/pcb-mo ... d_148.html
Notice the picture is identical, except the eBay one has been Photoshopped. I know tinchen mentioned he did an STV BIOS but he should have at least taken a real picture instead of shopping it.

Re: Someone finally did it... single chip naomi dual bios
I tried converting the Japan H BIOS to an Export BIOS with a hex editor and EPROM programmer a while ago, pretty certain I got Error 01 with all of the games I tested, as you describe. They all run fine with the regular Japan H BIOS, however.andygeezer wrote:I got an Export H bios, should check to see it can do older games.. I am sure I got Error 01 though..
Curious. A couple of people here have already vouched for this guy though. Maybe he put the listing up without doing the necessary testing, or perhaps he discovered a catastrophic flaw in the mod which went unnoticed until the last minute. As I said, he sent me a refund apologising that the "chips are broken" without any prior correspondence at all, so I sincerely doubt that he was attempting to rip anyone off.cgbartek wrote:Well, this is interesting: http://www.jammaboards.com/store/pcb-mo ... d_148.html
