Re: Emergency Call Ambulance 'Secret' medal?
Hehehe.. thank you Geotrig. (Nice boobs.)
No, no, it's not the "best game ever" at all. It is basically a very well executed and fun driving game. And it also has some very appetizing visuals, for it's time. The visuals even holds today's standard, I'd like to think.
But what is particularly interesting with this game, and what made me so damned obsessed with it, is its bonus system! Its scoring system, the bonus calculators and counters, all that stuff going on behind the actual game which we don't see -- THAT is what makes this game one of THE most memorable and PUZZLING games ever!
It is hard, oh yes! VERY hard to master. You have to use the 'very easy' settings, or at least 'easy' if you want to finish the 4:th case. On 'Normal' it's barely finishable, even for an expert like me or Magnus. Playing the game on 'hard' or 'very hard' is impossible, you will never complete the last case even though you will drive a perfect route with no crashes or accidents. Remember that.
I just need to tell you ... Late last night Magnus called me. He told me that he had managed to score over 42.000 pts. I thought "Ggnhnnhh! How does he really drive that ambulance??"
Magnus replied - *it's the curves*. You must take the curves with the appropriate attention.
What I will update the ECA-page with soon is how important it is to be aware of the nurses' animation in the upper right monitor, as she takes care of the patient. Ofcourse it is not a 100% according to real physics, but there are certain curves that are more critical than others, for instance the drive way out of the garage on stage 2. If you don't slow down and take the exit easy, you will see the nurse swinging about in the monitor. Basically you make her work that much harder, but not hard enough for her to let you know. Like if you crash she will shout at you "Are you trying to kill us?" (.. no, just you, sister. Usually is my quiet reply.)
But this is how *detailed* ECA is. You need to be *very aware* of your driving technique!

And here Magnus shows off how to master the driving in ECA. He really, really, simply whips the game programmer's physics here. Watch his curves.
Behold and learn, as this is some of the best driving you will ever see in this game.

Re: Emergency Call Ambulance 'Secret' medal?
It's like .. I just got an impulse on how I should explain the game to you: There are two situations going on simultaneously in the game of which you have total control.
Yes. That's it! Two very different situations: The primary is *the driving*, your driving to be precise. You must navigate the vehicle to the ER. And the second situation is *inside the ambulance*, meaning your nurse fighting for your patient's life. You must drive *carefully enough* to let the nurse comfortably do her job.
This is what the game is about.

Re: Emergency Call Ambulance 'Secret' medal?
In deed you do, Pete.
Also, I'd like to ask you everybody, PLEASE, if you stumble upon the #1 issue of Arcadia magazine, will you let me know?
I am looking everywhere but nothing is available, seems to be sold out on the official page, and I can't find any on either Yahoo, and ebay.
Next challenge will be to translate the game's article, once/ if I find it.

Re: Emergency Call Ambulance 'Secret' medal?
Am I happy to hear from you, Shou!
Thank you VERY much. Actually, all I need from the magazine is one article, that about the Ambulance. If you would please be so kind to scan it for me, I would be very happy with just the scans. I could make a PDF of it.

Sure but it will probably be 2012 by the time I go and grab it. Maybe Gaijin Punch has this one still? It's the very first issue of Arcadia so I imagine it's worth some money here.uncletom wrote:Am I happy to hear from you, Shou!

Re: Emergency Call Ambulance 'Secret' medal?
The Secret is eating me. It has an impact on my every day life. I am really curious if there are people out there who have played this game with similar enthusiasm like me, or Magnus. If so, where are they?
This is a world wide forum, isn't it? People from all corners of the world gather here to exchange experience, tips, tricks, and just having a great time. But why is it that nobody brought up the subject of Emergency Call Ambulance before? Is the game that trivial, or hard, or is it because it's just not mainstream? No, I think not. It's just a bit 'forgotten'.
What if I would organize a big event here in Sweden. I live in a smaller suburb close enough to Stockholm City, and I think that I would be able to, and could afford to rent the gymnasium just opposite my house. Over the weekend, or perhaps a few day over easter. I could fix up a few ECA machines for people to drive, and I'd film every session with cameras so that *if* the would be a breakthrough, and someone would get a Secret on either of the four stages, I'd have it on film!
I could announce a reward of ... maybe 5000 SEK to the person who achieves the Secret, and then 3000 SEK to the person who gets it the second time, and then 1000 SEK if somebody gets it a third time, which would be pretty unlikely. But still, this would give people incentive to play the game. I could arrange a tournament. Infact there is a 'Tournament Mode' in ECA.
What's stopping me? Only in my mind I stop myself. I must collapse this mental wall of limitation. I must free my mind, to free the Secret.

What? You've never once told me to buy one.davewellington wrote:I've been trying to get Korszca to buy one but he just won't listen!
You did, however, pester me to no end until I caved and bought Raiden Fighters Aces so I could play Raiden Fighters Jet in your vain attempt at someone beating TJ's high score.
However, TJ assured me that RFJ sucks so I won't be putting any time into it.

Sucked enough that he has a high score on it (and still owns it)
I have sent you an ebay link before and we've talked about it, don't make me pull up IRC history only for you to say "oh I was drunk" like you always do.

Re: Emergency Call Ambulance 'Secret' medal?
Now guys, don't fight over a meaningless little game like Raiden Fighters whatever version it is. You both know it doesn't even compare to Slap Fight, which by the way is a game you should practice at least a 100 credits per year.
Then you have Omega Fighter and Halley's Comet to polish on your bullet dodging. There's some stuff worth fighting about.
But Dave does have a point, Kors.. You should be buying that Ambulance. It's in Gaithersburg, Maryland which makes it your territory. What are you waiting for?

Re: Emergency Call Ambulance 'Secret' medal?
Update! YES!!!
Magnus called me yesterday, excited and very happy. He had managed to get the secret at the end of case#3, and film it. http://youtu.be/sl8SyH8HY38
We are almost positive now that the Secret bonus is awarded when you cross the finish line with 0.00 of 'Health' left. It is very difficult to consiously time. It is however very likely that there will be more of this now that we know how to acheive it. Ofcourse this means a greater risk of running out of Health before you finish, but as practice makes progress I am sure that we can now push the score even higher.
Magnus, already a devoted SEGA fan especially of Sonic, mentioned that SEGA has used this kind of bonus award before in other games as well, crossing the finish line with a small time margin left giving a great bonus score.

Re: Emergency Call Ambulance 'Secret' medal?
.. and now ...
As Magnus plays, now remember that by now Magnus is the one and only guy who actually masters the Ambulance *in the world*, he completed the game on *VERY HARD* setting, which is impossible to do by simply 'driving by the rules', by discovering and utilizing a previously unknown feature in the game: the Emergency Boost!
I've given it this name because it's precisely what it is, a speed boost.
This feature, probably deliberately incorpororated by the programmer, gives you the maximum speed possible if applied correctly. You need to use *Manual Gear*, and as you gear up to fourth gear, briefly put the Neutral in untill you see the actual change down in your right corner, then instantly gear up to fourth again. This will give you a temporary speed boost which, if repeated, will speed you up to 163 km/h, which is the maximum speed your Ambulance vehicle can travel.
I've updated our ECA-page here http://neo.dyndns.tv/eca/#trivia under the trivia section with this new information.
