It's just rare, especially in fully working condition. It seems to have been recapped, so I'm sure someone puts value on that too.

seem to remember the last few that went for sale nearing 2k . another unique collectable dont remember ever seen one that wasnt gradius

I own a Gradius cartridge and it has to be one of my favourite arcade related items due to the funky design and obscure history of bubble memory technology.
The Konami design, it's quite bonkers when you read into it.
The bubble system was relatively inexpensive about ten years ago until a solution to revive non working pcbs became available.
Unlikely I will be able to find a motherboard to play it on these days..
