Re: European Naomi Universal for use in the US

Open the rear door on the base and take a picture of what's there... UK ones have a large square transformer that outputs several voltages - 100VAC for the monitor and SUN PSU and I think 17VAC that goes to a small PCB and from there the audio amp next to the SUN PSU. The only US one I've seen in th...

Re: Repairs to metal and powder coating. (Vewlix CP)

I have a Taito JVS PCB I acquired from YAJ about a year ago (when I bought my Chewlix - stupidly thinking the internal wiring would be similar) I can use in one and a Sega Naomi JVS PCB for the other but I'll need to make an adapter for the loom to get that working as the 60-pin is wired up differen...

Re: Repairs to metal and powder coating. (Vewlix CP)

Nope - powdercoating doesn't smooth out imperfections - in fact if you use a gloss finish it can magnify them - you're better off using automotive paint and a filler primer. I have the same problem - a large chunk of paint scratched off one of my control panel surrounds, I'm going to sand the whole ...

Re: New Astro City Power Supply Queries

In Japan there is normally an earthing point and a separate earth cable is run from the earthing-point on the cab to the earthing plate on the wall as most wall sockets are only 2-pin. It is safe to rewire the socket so the earth is connected to the earth-pin in the socket and the earthing point. Yo...

Vewlix : Fastio / JVS PCB questions?

Just picked up a pair of Vewlix-F and both are Fastio+Nesica card readers. 90% of the stuff I want to run is plain JVS. I have one Taito JVS PCB is it just a matter of unplugging the Fastio PCB, swapping the 60-pin, power lead and running a USB cable into the base and leaving the card-reader disconn...

Does yours have fuses on the +5, +12, -5 lines - if so check if any have blown.

Re: about step down transformer

+/- 10% should be fine.

UK mains isn't always stable - at work we get 224V during the day and it creeps up to 232V at night (that's what the UPS in our office states anyway).

I've been using an Airlink 1Kva 100VAC transformer for at least 5 years and it's never let me down.

Re: consolized Pandoras Box

You'd be better off with a RPI + retropi and a couple of USB gamepads or a hacked NES/SNES classic. I got my hands on one a few weeks ago it was flimsy with cheapo sanwa-clone sticks/buttons. But for an all-in-one device it's a good idea - just needs to be made from a little better quality parts. I ...

Re: Neo25 - help identifying missing part

Looking at the shape of the rust I'd say either a step-down or isolation transformer. The mains filter is the black box on the back where the wires come in. I'd check if your monitor needs an isolation transformer before switching it on or the whole cab could become live and also what voltage it's e...

Re: Vewlix Questions (Repro CPOs)

My Chewlix has a Shadaloo 2L16B clone AMI panel fitted and it's OK but I also have a Taito AMI CP and you can tell it's not as good quality but it's pretty damn close. It's almost half the price as the one from Taito, he does L, C & F versions and has some in stock. TBH : the most annoying thing is ...

I'm not sure the BM PSU outputs enough power to run that - it won't run my Naomi and capcom JVS-JAMMA.

Re: Neo SC-19 ... Rust in Piece?

I've worked on worse cabs than yours and got them looking OK. The rust doesn't look to structurally damaging. Worst case scenario - find someone local that does sand-blasting that knows how to do car panels (heavy duty sand-blasters can make hell of a mess of the metalwork and blow holes in thin sec...

Re: Neo SC-19 ... Rust in Piece?

That rust's as bad as on my VW Bay.... Completely strip the cab down, taking plenty of pics as you do it, if you have one use an ultrasonic cleaner on all the nuts/bolts fastenings you plan to re-use. Wirebrush off all the loose rust, clean it down and assess how bad the shell is from that point. Yo...

Re: Konami Windy II Beeping Sound / No Video

Before you do that - check if you have a dag-earth wire and if you do it's connected.

The Tosh chassis will go into shutdown if fed an incorrect sync signal so try a standard PCB, then a 640*480@60Hz VGA signal - A Naomi-1 is handy for those or if you have an XRGB2, 2+ or 3 try the output from them.

Re: Konami Windy II Beeping Sound / No Video

The cover is missing from your PSU.... Loose cable is degauss - which may mean the chassis/tube has been swapped in the cab (or the degauss circuit is broken on the chassis). The extra VGA, Phono & USB leads are for Vs configuration and all of them can be bypassed. try to contact @geldra as he has m...

Re: You've Got Grail! The Valuation Thread

Boxed Ibara pcb with partial arts.

Box is a bit tatty,
PCB is mint,
Not sure if all the artwork is present.

Prices I've found seem to vary a lot £900 - £1300 so what is it actually worth?

Only problem is I'll instantly regret selling it even though I've not played it for over a year as I suck...
