Not all 1-slots are mono. The original MV-1 (I've got one, shame there's something borked with the sound at the mo), and the MV-1F both do stereo. And have joystick ports !!1!!

Re: Shmup Scoring Systems.

Progear no Arashi summary: * Don't get shot (you lose a chunk of your gem counter - this becomes a points multiplier for every 1,000 gem points you collect). * Don't use bombs (you get big points bonuses when you collect extra bombs if you are at full stock - points bonuses that apply for every bull...

Hey, don't diss Mary :p

My other half thinks the treatment of Jordan (tied with ropes to the ground and buried) is cruel, though :p

Not sure why Jitterbug gives you two life's energy back if you no-bomb - I guess 'cause Tyrranosatan is a git!

Silly questions #1 - What is a POP?

So, forgive the noobish question, but I've been wondering this for ages... and what with selling a bunch of artwork off today, I'm really, REALLY wondering. What the hell *is* a POP (that you get in PCB kits, e.g. from Cave)? What is it used for in an actual arcade, and where does the name come from...

Re: Death Smiles appreciation thread

Funny, that sounds exactly like my opinions of the game, at roughtly the same timeframe! Having shelled out a bit over £600 for it, I was a bit underwhelmed on the first few games (didn't have much time to play it first day it arrived). Sure it was good, but not immediately as good as Ketsui, or Pro...

Re: What PCB are you lusting after right now?

I had a partial kit a while back but didn't give it a chance and sold it. I'm very glad you did, too - it's had lots of play from me and my ex-housemates on my cab (and I'd been struggling to find it for a month or so before - even Mak-Japan and G-Front had no stock). It's a great shooter in so man...

Re: Top of picture dissapearing

I had *exactly* the same problem with my DeathSmiles PCB, too (and was worried something weird was going down with my monitor). It seemed to cut out halfway through one of the scanlines, and misses the top 2 above that (unless the screen was massively compressed vertically). Knocking it down by thre...

Re: the official street fighter 2 appreciation thread

I'm gonna be a bit controversial here, but I don't think Street Fighter II: World Warriors has aged particularly well at all - it was a classic when first released (revolutionary, in fact), but going back and playing it now, I see all the flaws. SFII'CE and SFII'HF, SSFII'X sure thing... just not th...

Re: the official street fighter 2 appreciation thread

I first heard about it on the train from a schoolmate (I was 14 or 15 - I forget) who was telling me about this game he'd played in our local videogame shop (Computer Cavern, Harris Arcade, Reading) where a guy in pyjamas cries out "ARE YOU KEN?" when he does a big punch, and some indian dude with s...

Re: Did you start with a cab or a Supergun?

Cab first (a Konami Windy leftover from a KC order - cheers to Mark, Joe & Chun :D).

However, I had been into MAME since about 1998, and bought a Hanaho HotrodSE around 2000-ish... but that doesn't count.

Re: which game have you played the most credits on?

Dance Dance Revolution Extreme.

After that, it is Street Fighter III Third Strike, Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha, and probably Progear No Arashi. Flying Shark and Operation Wolf got a shedload of credits from me back in the day, too :p

I've thought about it a few times, but I just don't see how it could make money, unless it was filled with fruit machines/AWPs.

Audio amp for Egret II

'ello folks, I'm looking to put in a small audio amp to provide stereo output to the Egret II speakers (main use: line-level audio from a PS2 (via a JPac and consloe I/O adapter bought from Ultimarc) out to the Egret's stereo speakers, secondary uses: Progear no Arashi and MVS :p). I understand I'll...

Re: your most prized arcade possesion?

Flying Shark/Hizhou Same (with a home-made soldered-on JAMMA extension so the cable fits properly :P)

Almost worthless in terms of £££, but one of the first arcade games I got into as a nipper. I don't think I'd ever sell this board.
