Re: Another MS2931 struggle...

Try the black lead in the hole with a - near the red one. And set it to 2mH for horizontal and 20mH for vertical.

If it's a Toshiba tube of the type A68KZN or A68LBT, yes.

Re: Focus Adjust on neck board - Toshiba PD2367

The last generations of Toshiba tubes had dynamic focus. Both grids forming the focusing lens had adjustable voltages. The voltage for the G3 comes from the flyback (as usual) while the voltage for the G4 comes from the anode voltage through a divider that consists of a fixed resistor placed inside ...

Re: SNK U4 - Screen crackles and dies (help!!)

seems to be a Nanao MS8-25. 26. It's a 25" cab though? What function does SW331 have on the neck board? I don't know if the monitor is a 25" or 26". All I know is that the MS8-26 has a transistor based vertical deflection and as such it requires a high impedance vertical yoke. Do you know of any 25...

Re: 2932 replacing yoke and convergence

The Toshiba A68KZN and A68LBT used on the MS2930 and MS2931 have a 108° deflection angle as opposed to the 110° of the A68KJU used on the MS9-29 and MS2932. Maybe the neck-funnel section is shaped differently enough that the respective deflection yokes are shaped so as to account for this difference...

Re: D9400 - preventive maintenance?

Thomson's bigger tubes had many design flaws and their resistive coating was particularly weak compared to that of other manufacturers like Philips or Panasonic. It would be highly impractical to apply a new one for several reasons not least of which the fragility of the yoke which breaks easily if ...

Re: Single dot on screen after chassis/tube transplant

That's one of the two decoupling caps on the 200v supply voltage for the RGB amp transistors. Not related to the missing deflection.

Re: Single dot on screen after chassis/tube transplant

Yoke connector visible in the last pic (red/blue/yellow/green wires). Whether it is plugged all the way in or not remains to be seen. The header could have broken solder joints due to wiggling. Try the other header.

Re: Nanao MS8-29MSG - Broken CRT Socket pins, can a similar Aftermarket part be used?

My big question is... Are the original SMK sockets swappable with any other similar spares? Is there an specific pin configuration for the Nanao ones? A difference can be the spark gap, i.e. a metal strip built in the socket that goes very close to all the pins and in case of a high voltage flashov...

It would be easier to buy an unthreaded ferrite rod of similar diameter and length.

Re: MS8-26 Horizontal Width Coil

I used the core of a width coil of an Italian TV (same thread as that of a Hantarex monitor). They're slightly thinner so I put a few turns of tape around it until it was tight enough to be pushed/pulled instead of screwed which is more convenient anyway. Immagine3.jpg Immagine4.jpg Immagine5.jpg

That's the AC filter. I don't think it's bad, maybe a shorted diode bridge could get it hot but in that case the power supply wouldn't work at all.

That's probably the PTC. It's normal that it gets very hot.

Re: Nanao MS9-29 (05A00675C2) dead

Sounds like a problem in the power supply. Check the B+ diodes on the output (D951, D952, D956), the caps (C951, C952, C953). If they're OK check the primary side.

I took it to the technician, and he repaired the monitor, but when I took it back it still had the same issue. I took the chasis and tube this time and he said it was the yoke.
If it was the yoke what did he repair the first time around?
