Re: Astro city with MS8-29FA - Shorted Degauss

Thanks, yes the fix was pretty straightforward.

What is the PTC responsible for? It might be very damaged already... Do you know where it is on the board and if there is a simple way to test it? This monitor struggles to turn on. Is it linked?

Re: Astro city with MS8-29FA - Shorted Degauss

Thanks Nem, that's what I was talking about.

But your opposite answers raise a few questions:
Is auto-degauss harmful for the lifetime of the screen?
If not why should I bother with that detail?

Is there an other adjustment to make somewhere if i do connect the manual degauss?

Astro city with MS8-29FA - Shorted Degauss

Hi, When taking the chassis (labeled MS8-29FA) out of an astro, i found a peculiar thing: IMG_2384.jpg The degauss pins are shorted and the degauss harness is just hanging freely in the cab. Is that an issue? Should I just replace the framed blue wire shorting pins 5 and 7 with the manual degauss wi...

Nanao MS8-29 -- Screen not booting or suddenly shutting down

Hi, I just replaced all electrolytic caps on a nanao ms8-29FA. When the screen turns on, the picture is amazing. But the screen is very capricious and seldom turns on. When it does, it happens to shut down after a few minutes, without a warning. I measured all caps i put on with a multimeter and the...

Re: Lines and clicking sound at low brightness -- Nanao MS8-29FA

Yes and just to be sure the new cap was not defective, i put it back; same stuff. Then I re-replaced it. I wonder if I didn't screw a transistor up when consolidating cold joints. But I have a 95W soldering station working at 340°C, I never stayed more than 5sec on the same spot. Or is it possible b...

Lines and clicking sound at low brightness -- Nanao MS8-29FA

Hi, I had an issue with horizontal hold on my astro city. I took it apart and figured out cap C911 of the MS8-29 chassis was dead. So i bought a set of replacement caps and recapped everything [besides C560, C561, C521 (330uF 16V instead of the referenced 33uF 16V), C446 (33uF 16V non polarized) and...

The chassis model is written on the heatsink if the label is still there ;-)

Re: Astro City image lost

Alright, this is what it looks like: https://youtu.be/uWgjt6QPh_U As explained in the video commentary, i managed to get a demo fight working, but as soon as the demo was over, the image vanished again... I got it only once though. SSF2X gives me the most stable. Tekken 3 and Metal Slug 5 just yield...

Re: Astro City image lost

That probably happened because you've messed with the "H.H.15" and messed up the horizontal hold. Try only that pot and see what happens. I'm assuming you're using a 15khz PCB of course. Nah i just messed around these bad boys... https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/yu4AAOSwTRlfPR97/s-l1600.jpg Yep 15kHz...

Astro City image lost

Hi, A few months ago, i was playing my astro city and noticed a misalignment of the image on the monitor. So i messed around a little bit with the chassis pots to get it centered. Unfortunately this process turned the image unstable and a total mess. After that, it has been impossible to stabilize t...

Re: Introduce yourself here!

Hi, I'm Denis from Belgium.

I have a Sega Astro City with a few games such as SSF2X, Tetris TGM3, Metal Slug 5 and Tekken 3.
I'm very interested in RGB mods.
