Re: The CRT problem.

I think scanning laser projection can be a viable option. I looked into the idea a few years ago and it should be possible even as a semi-DIY project (think complexity of something like the OSSC in terms of "DIY") with off the shelf RGB lasers and resonant galvanometers. You need to process the sync...

Thanks @mufunyo. Don’t suppose you can share where you got your tube from?
I got it off eBay, but it was for a Blast City which requires a 60cm tube. It was also in 2016 and apparently eBay only lets you view past purchases from the past 3 years.

Re: NAC Fluo tube replacement with LED tube.

It was pretty tricky to find the right size tube, 100v compatible, and capable of being used with a ballast. But once I found it, that made fitting it all the easier. When you get a "universal" LED tube, that can work with a ballast, you get a dummy "starter" that is just a fuse between the + and - ...

Looks like the x-ray protection board. PrincessPrinPrin described its function in a thread about another monitor.

Re: Doom Eternal

The first level where you get all the abilities and functions as sort of a tutorial level is absolutely awful - at times the tutorial stuff is downright condescending, at other times it just throws you into battles unprepared. Basically all the new mechanics detract from the core experience. The dif...

Re: exA-Arcadia

Since you're just using the IO for controls, you could pick up any IO board and skip the supergun entirely. You just have to make an adapter between your supergun controller and the digital inputs on the IO, and wire a small +5V / +12V PSU to power the thing. The Sega Rev B only requires 5 volts, I...

the DVI-D port actually does pass HDMI audio if your passive converter populates those pins.
HDMI digital audio is transmitted over the 3 main TMDS lines during video blanking; it doesn't require extra pins.

Check if the neck glows orange when powered on.

Re: 29" NANAO 2931 Tube Heater Short - What Happened?

That's interesting. How the heck did you identify the faulty SMD cap? Which sub-board was it? It wasn't me who performed the repair. Just going off what I remember the repair technician told me on the phone. But I did burn through something like 3 or 4 tubes before identifying the exact cause. The ...

Re: 29" NANAO 2931 Tube Heater Short - What Happened?

For me it was an SMD capacitor on a sub board that was causing HV to spike, which arced the neck and shorted out the tube as well as cracking the glass by sheer force of the arcs. I'd recommend taking off the tube, doing a full recap (including all sub boards), and checking HV before attaching a new...

+1 on Guacamelee. The original is great and the sequel is even better. It can just be really difficult at times (not to complete, but the optional side challenges are just brutal).

Re: New PC, any good games to play?

I'm currently playing through Doom (2016) for the third time. First playthrough was Hurt Me Plenty, second time Ultra-Violence, and now trying my hand at Nightmare. Gameplay is really solid and it's gorgeous even though it's a few years old now.

Re: Trying to figure out proper isolation transformer setup (Monitor and house voltage different from cabinet)

I would say the monitor is the only part of an arcade cabinet that is possibly in danger if fed too much AC voltage. The marquees and lights can basically run on any voltage (due to how a TL lamp with ballast works), and the JAMMA power supply has adjustable output voltage. So if your monitor is rat...

Re: Trying to figure out proper isolation transformer setup (Monitor and house voltage different from cabinet)

Wall/surge protector -> Isolation transformer -> Step down transformer -> Arcade cabinet AC plug -> adapter -> monitor chassis A step down transformer acts as an isolation transformer. An isolation transformer is just a 1:1 winding transformer, meaning the input and output voltages are the same. Th...

I remember first seeing that monitor announced and thinking to myself "you could play tate or yoko without rotating the monitor ever again". Definitely something to look out for on surplus eBay listings if only for the exotic factor.
